PSN DOWN: Maintenance error hits with PS4 server outage | Gaming | Entertainment

PS4, PS3 and PS Vita console owners have been hit with a large outage tonight, taking down most of the core PlayStation Network services.

The news comes following a sharp spike in reports of an outage and seeing a PlayStation maintenance error.

It’s unclear what is causing tonight’s outage, but it appears to be affecting a lot of console owners.

“You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features,” a message from Sony PlayStation reads.

“Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.”

All major PlayStation platforms have been affected and the outage reportedly extends to the PS Store and PS NOW services.

It’s unclear how long tonight’s outage will last but it appears that most core services are offline.

This includes everything from buying games from the PlayStation Store, to logging in and changing console options.

“I mean, if you’re going to do maintenance you can at least send your users a PlayStation message letting us know a day beforehand,” one user writes.

But it appears that the maintenance message gamers are receiving is just part of today’s outage, which appears to be unplanned.

No maintenance message has been shared by Sony tonight on the usual server-status PSN pages.

The good news is that the large number of outage reports are starting to drop, meaning that things could be returning to normal for PlayStation Network users soon.
