V Rising’s Big New Update Explained

0

Stunlock Studios is consistently updating V Rising, with the latest update including some new features and crucial weapon and ability balances.

V Rising has been a break-out hit on Steam Early Access since its launch in May, and players have been enjoying the game’s interesting take on survival and base management. Developer Stunlock Studios has been hard at work ensuring that the game stays updated with new features and bug fixes.

The biggest fix that came in a previous patch was allowing offline play, which was a huge relief to players who did not want to participate in the PvP or those who are unable to stay connected to the internet. Even though the game is still in Early Access, V Rising is a very fleshed-out game, with many interesting features that are becoming even more polished.

V Rising’s Major New Features

Though the list of what the developer considers to be major features added in this update is fairly small, it does consist of some important quality of life improvements, as well as, a major increase in localization. Since V Rising is becoming so popular so quickly, the developers have had to add a lot more localization for languages such as Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, and many others, with more language options surely on the way as the game continues to grow.

The second major feature is a welcomed change for those who enjoy the base-building side of V Rising. The Patch Notes state that players can now dismantle floor pieces that are attached to a wall without having to dismantle the entire wall, as long as the wall still has any floor piece attached to it. Any fan of building in games will know how frustrating it is to have to tear down an entire wall or building just to fix one small detail, and it looks like Stunlock has taken note of these issues in its game and is aiming to make the building much more streamlined.

Ability and Weapons Balances in V Rising

V Rising‘s combat puts focus on different types of skills all with a wide variety of different abilities, many of these skills have been updated for better balance. The Unholy abilities affected by the update are Corpse Explosion, Unstable Mosquito, and Veil of Bones all receiving some buffs and damage increases. Corpse Explosion is a tricky skill that requires some finesse to pull off but is now a more viable option with larger damage output. While Veil of Bones has received a huge damage increase but loses some damage as the projectile bounces around the battlefield.

In terms of healing abilities, Veil of Blood now heals slightly more and The Vermin Salve healing item was previously able to be interrupted by damage. Luckily, this issue has been fixed and players are still able to heal through damage, though they will not gain the usual buff. Many Illusion and Frost skills also received buffs, making Illusion skills such as Spectral Wolf much more powerful and making the Illusion skill tree a more viable option. The Frost skills are all fairly powerful and the Crystal Lance and Ice Nova both received either damage increases or cooldown decreases, while Veil of Frost and Arctic Leap both had their damage output decreased.

The Chaos skills are widely considered some of the most powerful and feature a lot of very useful abilities. The studio has taken notice of these overpowered abilities and has reduced damage output or increased cooldown for many of these skills in an attempt to level out the playing field between Chaos and the other skills.

Finally, many of V Rising’s weapons have received some balancing respecs. Most notably the mace and harpoon abilities have received buffs while the sword’s abilities have been dialled back, and the most crucial change to combat comes in the form of mounted melee damage being reduced by 30%. Before the update, mounted combat was unbelievably powerful, so it was necessary to apply such a substantial decrease to the damage.

Stunlock Studios is ensuring that V Rising continues to stay relevant and inventive through its Early Access period. This update shows that the team is dedicated to creating a more inclusive and fair game for players to continue to enjoy.

V Rising is available in Early Access on PC.
