There’s a new Lord of the Rings game starring Gollum •

We’re two years away from a new Lord of the Rings game starring everyone’s favourite tricksy hobbit.

German developer Daedalic last night confirmed it’s working on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for launch on PC and unnamed consoles in 2021.

The game’s story acts as a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, and shows what Gollum was up to before he began following Frodo, eating raw fish and dissing chips.

In the books – which Daedalic’s licence is based upon, rather than Peter Jackson’s films – Gollum spent this time chewing on the fact Bilbo stole his precious ring in The Hobbit, before hanging out with Shelob and getting tortured by Sauron’s troops in Mordor. But who knows what else this game will cook up.

Raw and wriggling.

There’s little other detail on the project, though Daedalic is known for its point-and-click adventure games. It’s worth noting, however, that as a non-Warner Bros. Lord of the Rings game (the first in a decade), this project will not be able to rely on the recent movies for its character or location designs. Which also means no Andy Serkis, boo.

Point-and-click. Boil ’em, mash ’em, put ’em in a stew.
