Pokimane reveals that she will be leaving Twitch, ending her ten-year-long tenure as one of the streaming platform’s most popular creators.
Massively popular streamer Pokimane has confirmed she is leaving Twitch after just over ten years streaming on the Amazon-owned platform. First starting her Twitch channel in 2013 primarily as a League of Legends streamer, Imane “Pokimane” Anys quickly became one of Twitch’s most popular creators on the platform for her entertaining streams and fun personality. Pokimane’s meteoric rise in popularity would see her become the most-followed female streamer on Twitch, going on to co-found streamer group OfflineTV. Now, Pokimane is saying goodbye to the platform that made her famous.
While Pokimane first started on Twitch as a League of Legends creator, she would branch out into a wide variety of content, often playing many of the popular trending games. Pokimane was one of the biggest streamers to jump onto Fortnite during its rise in 2018, and she would later contribute to the massive success of Among Us, starting in late 2020. Pokimane even played a part in a high-profile event that saw herself and several other creators playing Among Us with United States representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. However, Pokimane’s time on Twitch has apparently come to an end.
Pokimane Gives Away Over $10,000 to Smaller Streamers
In a heartwarming video, popular Twitch streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys records herself giving away over $10,000 to smaller streamers.
In an announcement posted to her Twitter account, Pokimane shared the news that she will be leaving Twitch as a streamer. While the post did not cite her reasoning behind the decision to depart from the platform that saw her rise to fame, Pokimane expressed gratitude to the site that was her “home for a decade.” The post also fondly reflects on her time streaming games like the previously mentioned League of Legends and Among Us. Pokimane did not share where she would be taking her streams to, with fans speculating YouTube or Kick could be destinations for Pokimane.

twitch has been my home for a decade..

Pokimane’s departure from Twitch marks a major shift for the platform, with one of its biggest talents now leaving. The Amazon streaming platform has seen several of its most popular streamers leaving in recent years, with big names like MoistCr1tikal and xQc taking their streams elsewhere. Competing platform Kick, co-founded by popular streamer Trainwreckstv, has also welcomed several banned Twitch creators to its ranks, including Adin Ross and Amouranth among others.
The loss of one of Twitch’s biggest talents comes as the platform’s financial struggles have been made more apparent throughout recent months. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy confirmed earlier this month that Twitch is not profitable, suggesting the company is making moves to downsize and cut costs across the board. The streaming platform also recently confirmed its upcoming end-of-service in South Korea, alongside the impending shutdown of the Nintendo Switch’s Twitch app. Pokimane leaving will likely deal a major blow to an already struggling Twitch as one of its most prolific creators walks away.
