Fortnite Season 8 battle pass UPDATE: Free Fortnite skins and a fiery tornado | Gaming | Entertainment

The Fortnite Season 8 battle pass has yet to be revealed, but that hasn’t stopped Epic Games revealing some big news.

The development team behind the massive free-to-play Battle Royale shooter have confirmed that fans will be able to pick up a free Season 8 pass before its start date.

It’s massive news for Fortnite fans and comes at the same time that the game comes under pressure from a new rival.

Apex Legends is picking up some serious audience numbers on Twitch and has been confirmed to have reached 2 million concurrent players.

This isn’t enough to knock Fortnite off its perch as being one of the most successful BR games ever, but it makes for a pretty strong contender.

This might have something to do with Epic Games deciding to give away Fortnite Season 8 Battle Passes for free, or they might have had this planned for weeks.

However, while it sounds like a great deal, players will need to earn the right to a pass without spending V-Bucks.

Those who want to pick a Season 8 Battle Pass for free will need to complete 13 free Overtime Challenges by February 27.

This means Epic Games is giving players from now until the end of Season 7 to achieve this goal.

The development team has also confirmed that a range of Fortnite free skins will effectively be made available to everyone who picks up the next battle pass.

“Everyone who completes 13 free Overtime Challenges by February 27 will receive the upcoming Season 8 Battle Pass for FREE,” a new message from Epic Games reads.

“If you don’t have an outfit, now is your chance to get several for free. With the Battle Pass, you’ll receive two Season 8 Outfits instantly, and you can earn up to five more.

“Save your V-Bucks; this one’s on us.”

From what has been shared so far about the new Overtime Challenges, there should be plenty of them to take on and complete.

20 Challenges will be available to Fortnite fans before the end of Season 7, although it appears some of them are only open to current Battle Pass owners.

It’s expected that new challenges will be released in waves of three over the coming days, meaning non-Battle Pass players may have to wait until at least February 22 before they have achieved what’s needed for a Season 8 pass.

Those who don’t own a Season 7 Battle Pass currently have access to six Overtime Challenges, while those that don’t, only have access to three challenges.

These include collecting 15 Coins in Featured Creative Islands, searching seven chests and ammo boxes at a motel or RV Park and placing in the Top 15 in Duos with a friend.

The only major leak that gives us a hint at what Season 8 will be like comes from a loading screen for week 11.

This features the Prisoner – star of the Snowfall Challenge – summoning some kind of storm, which will no doubt feature fire.

This could include a Tornado and perhaps the destruction of familiar parts of the map, with Tilted Towers linked with more destruction.

What the Prisoner does not give us a clear clue on is what the theme of Season 8 will be.

The secret challenge skins are usually tied to the end events of a season but don’t usually reflect the theme of the next.

So until we get some more juicy leaks or Season 8 teasers, we’re going to have to keep theorising.
