The Epic Games Store releases two free games for the current week, while revealing what fans can expect come February 15.
As of 10 am CT on February 8, the Epic Games Store has cycled its available free games around. Users can no longer claim Doors – Paradox, but they can claim Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! and Lost Castle. Those will be available until the same time on February 15, at which time Epic Games Store will cycle them out for Dakar Desert Rally.
The Epic Games Store free games for February 8 are an interesting pair. If someone is not in the know, they might look at Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! and assume it’s a simple dating sim/visual novel, but that’s not the case. It’s a psychological horror game, and it’s best left at that because the game is one anyone should experience as fresh as possible. Meanwhile, The Lost Castle is a roguelike, dungeon-crawling action RPG; its approach to cute graphics and humor is reminiscent of MapleStory. Either way, players fight to reclaim Castle Harwood (or at least its treasure) in four-player co-op with plenty of items, potions, weapons, and armor to find and use to their advantage.
A psychological horror game and a roguelike action RPG are going to cover a wide range of players, but the best aspect of EGS is that fans know what’s coming next week too. If neither of these games scratches their itch, then perhaps rally simulation game Dakar Desert Rally will on February 15. It is an off-road rally racing game based on the Amaury Sport Organization, featuring licensed vehicles ranging from cars and trucks to quads and motorcycles.
Players can approach the game and adjust the simulation to be as casual or as complex as they like, either in online multiplayer races or in single-player offline. It features all the vehicles, teams, pilots, and even stages that were present at the 2020, 2021, and 2022 Dakar Rally races. It also features a Rally Raid career, dynamic seasons, and a full day-night cycle.

Overall, the sheer variety offered by the Epic Games Store is remarkable. From a puzzle game and horror title to a roguelike game and a rally racing simulation title, EGS casts a wide net and catches a lot of fans with it.
