Apex Legends UPDATE on Nintendo Switch and Crossplay as fans wait on Mobile news | Gaming | Entertainment

Apex Legends isn’t being released on the Nintendo Switch, at least, not anytime soon.

That’s the verdict from a recent interview involving one of the Apex Legends development team, with comments on Crossplay support also made.

While a launch on the Nintendo Switch platform would open it up to more gamers, it’s not something that is coming soon.

Speaking to Wired, Apex Project lead, Drew McCoy, revealed that there was plenty of support for such a port among fans.

But without giving much away, McCoy explained that there was nothing in the works for the Nintendo Switch.

“If [a] Switch [version] was coming, we would tell you, and we would blast it across the world,” said McCoy.

“We are hearing all the Switch players who say they want the game.

“I can’t make any promises right now. We have a lot of things that we’re working on, so stay tuned for anything in the future. But currently, we don’t have anything to announce.”

The light read from this statement is that a Nintendo Switch port will not be announced in the coming months.

However, there’s been a few times in the past when developers have been asked about Switch ports, deny anything was in the works, and then reveal something in the same year.

Developers are never going to spoil such a reveal before the big announcement, but it does seem that Switch gamers will at least have to wait for such news.

A more positive response was given by McCoy when discussing Apex Legends Crossplay.

This is a favourite feature that fans are hoping for and is something that Respawn Entertainment has shown interest in.

“Cross-play is something we really care about and are looking into,” said McCoy

“We know that people have friends on all sorts of platforms and that you really want to go to the arena and get some wins together, so stay tuned.”

Apex Legends on Mobile phones is another port that fans are hoping for.

It seems almost inevitable that there will be an Apex Legends version for mobile phones, especially when you look at how successful Fortnite and PUBG have been.

We already know that EA is interested in bringing a version of the game to Android and iOS, following a recent earnings call.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said the gaming giant is “looking at how to take [Apex Legends] to mobile and crossplay over time.”

But it should be noted that Respawn Entertainment has made no such gaming announcement and has given little indication that this is something that could happen in 2019.

Right now, Apex Legends is only available on PS4, Xbox One and PC as a free-to-play title.
