What to Expect From the Resident Evil Franchise in 2024

0

The Resident Evil franchise is back in full swing, and though it doesn’t have any confirmed 2024 plans, it could still be a big year for the series.

The Resident Evil franchise is back and bigger than ever before. While Resident Evil has remained pretty popular since its very debut back in 1996, there was definitely a moment there in the 2010s where it dipped a little, likely due to the disappointing release of Resident Evil 6. But with Resident Evil 7‘s triumphant return to form in 2017, the franchise has only seen growth, finding a perfect balance of nostalgia and originality thanks to its new release schedule that cycles between excellent sequels and incredible remakes.

2023 has been a pretty strong year all round for Resident Evil. Back in March, the Resident Evil 4 Remake somehow managed to not only meet its absurdly high expectations but exceed them in numerous ways. Then later on in the year, Resident Evil Village‘s VR mode put an enthralling twist on an already great entry. And though it wasn’t all that well received by critics, the Resident Evil: Death Island movie was a fun little cherry on top of an excellent 2023 for the Resident Evil franchise. While Capcom doesn’t currently have any concrete Resident Evil plans laid out for 2024, it could still end up being an exciting year for fans.

Capcom Could Make Some Big Resident Evil Announcements in 2024

Capcom Could Reveal Resident Evil 9 in 2024

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet in any capacity, Resident Evil 9 is one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets right now. After the great success of Resident Evil 7Village, and the recent remakes, Resident Evil 9 was already pretty much guaranteed, and over the last few years, a vast number of leaks and rumors have all pointed towards its existence, along with positing that Chris Redfield may return as the main playable protagonist once more.

Of course, all leaks and rumors should be taken with a big pinch of salt, and fans won’t know for sure that Resident Evil 9 is coming until Capcom announces it officially. Thankfully though, that Resident Evil 9 announcement could be right around the corner. The last mainline Resident Evil sequel released back in 2021, and Resident Evil 7 released back in 2017, seemingly suggesting that a four-year development cycle is standard for these entries. If that’s the case with Resident Evil 9, then fans can probably expect to see it release in 2025, which means it’ll likely be announced sometime in 2024.

Capcom Could Reveal The Next Resident Evil Remake in 2024

The Resident Evil remakes, on the other hand, are a little harder to predict. While Resident Evil 2 and 3 released within just a year of one another, Resident Evil 4 Remake arrived three whole years later. Currently, the word on the rumor-filled street is that Resident Evil won’t release a remake in 2024, though that doesn’t mean that an announcement could be off the table. Much like Resident Evil 9the next Resident Evil remake could be announced in 2024 and scheduled for a 2025 release window.

Regardless of when the next Resident Evil is announced, once it is, fans can pretty much assume that it’ll release a year later. Resident Evil 7 was first announced in June 2016 and released in January 2017, Village was announced in June 2020 and came out in May 2021, and even the most recent Resident Evil 4 Remake was announced in June 2022 and released in March 2023. The chances are, if a Resident Evil game does get announced this coming year, it’ll be sometime in June, and it’ll be slated for a 2025 release date.
