The Turtle Beach Battle Buds are a departure from the norm for a company that specialises in over-ear headphones for all budgets.

With an in-ear design, the Battle Buds are much more inconspicuous and unassuming than the standard over-ear Turtle Beach headsets.

Smaller and lighter than their over-ear forebears, you can fold them up and stuff them in your pocket without worrying they’ll break.

At less than £25, they’re also much cheaper than usual, making them a great choice for gaming fans on a budget.

They’re even cheaper than the , which at £29.99 are a steal.

Of course, the budget price tag means that the sound quality isn’t going to blow you away.

The sound is impressively consistent and clear, providing a good balance between music, speech and voice chat with other players.

Just don’t expect the same rich sounds and sense of immersion provided by expensive models with bass boost and surround sound.

This is why I think the Battle Buds make more sense for gaming on the go, when you’re less likely to be playing single-player epics or chatting online.

The fit also makes them appealing for PlayStation VR owners, although I found them lacking when used with games like Transference and Stifled, where sound plays such a crucial role.

Compatible with the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC and even smartphones and tablets with a 3.5mm jack – sorry iPhone users – the Battle Buds are also extremely versatile.

They’re not going to break when shoved into your pocket or bag, and come with enough spare parts to survive a knock or two.

You might initially struggle to get them to stay in your ears, although thankfully they come with interchangeable ear tips and stabilisers for all sizes.

The Turtle Beach Battle Buds aren’t going to win any awards for sound quality and you might have to fiddle around to get the most comfortable fit, but the price and versatility makes them a good choice for gamers.

They’re particularly useful for gaming on the go, when you don’t want to carry around a bulky set of headphones for your Nintendo Switch or smartphone.
