The PS Plus free games for April not only set a strong tone for the entire month but potentially for the rest of 2023 as well.
Sony has adapted several identifiable patterns and strategies with PS Plus over the years, but it seems intent on breaking those traditions now. For example, the PS Plus games released in March tend to be some of the best every year, with Bloodborne being a prime example of a game given away in March. However, while the PS Plus free games for March 2023 were solid, they didn’t hold a candle to the past. At the same time, PS Plus’ free games for April 2023 had to live down that past too—because they often followed major games, the best games given away in April, historically, may have been good but never great. You can see what is due to be removed this April here.
That’s out the window this month because April’s selection for PS Plus is a great month all the way around and especially in comparison to past years. But because of that, Sony is certainly aware that expectations may be even higher going forward.
PS Plus Monthly Games for April Are Only Going to Get Better

The PS Plus free games for April 2023 include Meet Your Maker, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Tails of Iron. Meet Your Maker is a community-driven raiding-and-building multiplayer game, but the big kicker here is it’s a day one release. It remains to be seen, but it’s fair to say that Meet Your Maker has as much potential on PS Plus as Fall Guys, Rocket League, and others. Meanwhile, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a solid platformer and, more importantly, a PlayStation-exclusive giveaway. Tails of Iron rounds out the games, and it’s perhaps one fans have never heard of. Yet, it’s a great soulslike game with a unique premise, meaning hopefully several PS Plus subscribers grab it this month.
As a whole, it’s a great month representing a multiplayer title, a PlayStation exclusive, and a soulslike game. But no subscription can make every single subscriber happy with an individual selection. Of course, that’s no problem because fans can expect Sony to release somewhere between 17 and 20 new games later this month via the PS Plus Extra and Premium games for April 2023. These have not only been better than the Essential Tier in terms of quantity but quality here lately, letting fans pick up several high-profile games every month. In other words, the free game list is just one stop on what could be the best month of April on the service ever.
Raising the Bar for PS Plus in April Means Raising the Bar Everywhere

A rising tide lifts all boats, and PS Plus’ April selection is certainly a rising tide. Not only does this set a new tone for April moving forward, but it also raises expectations for any following months this year. With the PS Plus games for March, arguably, being the worst month so far and April elevating itself, it seems that PS Plus could have stronger months throughout the year. Now, that doesn’t mean fans can expect every month to be for them or can’t expect for a month or two to be weaker than even March, but that the bar has been raised.
It’ll be interesting to see if this tide stays high or if it settles back into the norm of late last year in the coming months. However, PS Plus has always been fond of patterns and, if April is any indication, PS Plus could be repeating its hot streak of late 2020/early 2021.
PS Plus subscribers get a handful of games every month.
