Rocksteady’s upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could be teasing the return of a major Arkhamverse villain.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may have just teased the return of the Arkhamverse version of The Joker. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in the same universe as Rocksteady’s Arkham games, with the new open-world multiplayer game seemingly taking place sometime after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. Anyone that has yet to play through the Batman: Arkham games will definitely want to do so, as this post will have MAJOR SPOILERS.
If The Joker is returning in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, it’s unclear exactly how Rocksteady will pull it off. Those that have played through the games will know that The Joker is dead in the Arkhamverse. After abusing the Titan formula in Batman: Arkham Asylum, Joker suffered from a terminal illness that eventually took his life at the end of Batman: Arkham City. Joker still appears in Batman: Arkham Knight, albeit as a hallucination.
With Joker having been dead since the events of Batman: Arkham City, the latest tease from Rocksteady has left fans puzzled. Rocksteady recently shared an image of the Daily Planet as it will appear in Suicide Squad‘s open world Metropolis. The building has been given a Joker-themed makeover, though it’s unclear who is responsible. Rocksteady promised to share more information on the revamped Daily Planet during its next Insider episode.
Rocksteady has so far shared two Insider episodes hyping Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The first episode focused on Suicide Squad‘s story and gameplay, giving fans a 20-minute deep dive into what they can expect from the game. The second Insider episode was all about Suicide Squad‘s supporting cast, highlighting various characters players will be interacting with during their adventures. The first Insider episode aired about a month ago, whereas the second one was three weeks ago, so it’s unclear when Rocksteady will post the third one that gives fans an explanation about this Joker-themed Daily Planet building.
The Joker has come back from the dead in various ways throughout DC Comics history, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for the Clown Prince of Crime to do the same in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, though that would undermine the impact his death has had on the Arkhamverse. Another possibility is that this is some Joker copycat or someone who has otherwise decided to take up the villain’s mantle. Ultimately, all fans can do is guess until Rocksteady decides to share more information.
