Stray Mod Adds Siamese Cat to the Game

A Stray modder shares a creation with fellow players that lets them change the playable orange cat into a Siamese cat instead.

Stray is the latest indie game darling to take the internet by storm. While the game provides its own charming story and a surprisingly realistic cat to play as that’s pleased many players, fans and modders have already been hard at work making changes to the title.

Stray follows the tale of a small orange cat that’s separated from its family early in the game. Left alone to survive, the cat has to make its way through a strange cyberpunk-esque land populated by robots in an attempt to be reunited with its clowder.

Extreme work and detail went into bringing the game’s orange tabby to life, but with so many different breeds and colours of cats in real life, it’s no surprise that some have taken the opportunity to introduce different-looking cats to the world. One such example is a mod that’s available via NexusMods. Just days after Stray’s launch, NexusMods user sir_galahad172 took to the site to share a simple Siamese recolour mod for the playable cat.

As one might expect, the Siamese version of the cat has brilliant blue eyes, and dark points like a Seal-point or Chocolate-point Siamese cat, with dark markings on its legs, ears, tail, and its face. Users in the comments delighted at the creation, often comparing it to their own Siamese cats in real life. Several fans of the mod have pointed out that the reskin bears a strong resemblance to Ragdoll cats, as well, which tend to have very similar markings. However, as the Ragdoll cats tend to be much fluffier, it might be more difficult to create a believable modification of the cat to make it look like the long-haired breed.

Several mods already exist that make minor changes to the playable cat, like changing its breed or colour, like this one. However, there are also stranger mods in existence, like one that swaps out the cat entirely for Garfield, the iconic comic strip cat. An even weirder one put Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ CJ in the place of the cat, which makes for a bizarre sight, to say the least. Unfortunately, these mods are only available to players on the PC.

Although it faced a slight delay, fans of games and cats can’t seem to get enough of Stray. The game has received numerous glowing reviews, and the developer and publisher bringing attention to cat charities have helped to shine a positive light on the creation, too. With Stray mods like these, the game is likely to keep the attention of players for a long time.
