Skyless Blind – A Stylized Cosmic Horror Exploration Game Heads to Kickstarter

1

Skyless Blind is a stylized cosmic horror game set in a shattered cosmos. Explore the atmospheric ruins of incomprehensibly ancient worlds, meet mysterious characters and eldritch entities, unearth reality-bending artifacts, and uncover the dark truth behind the weeping stars of a broken universe in this Yume Nikki-like RPGMaker horror game.

Game Geeks News can announce cosmic horror game Skyless Blind has already reached half of it’s pledged goal this week on Kickstarter and there is still time to grab yourself some really cool goodies for backing this amazing crowdfund project including, digital wallpaper art designed for both PC and mobile, digital copies of Skyless Blind on release, or a downloadable digital content pack with exclusive cloaks, familiars and artifacts added to your game as thanks for your support! Skyless Blind is about exploration and mystery, first and foremost. Inspired by and expanding upon the design philosophy of the cult classic indie game Yume Nikki, Skyless is structured as a series of open worlds rich in secrets and oddities to discover, connected through a nexus of interweaving portals. As you travel across the galaxy, you’ll encounter new portals to deeper and darker worlds, collectable items to unlock new abilities or customize your appearance, friendly characters and hostile creatures, and fragments of lore to piece together the expansive mythos of the universe.

Mysterious ancient homes of bygone civilizations are scattered throughout the Blind, calling to be reclaimed and refurnished with trophies and artifacts collected from your travels. Cryptic puzzles and arcane mechanisms lay still in desolate wastes, silently guarding forgotten knowledge of eons past. Hidden away in the furthest and darkest reaches of space lie secret worlds of untold horrors, awaiting only the most determined of explorers.

Gameplay features include:

  • Expansive worlds filled with a variety of atmospheric environments, enigmatic characters and intricate lore
  • Treasures of a bygone age locked away within hidden chests
  • Shattered masks of reality-bending power, waiting to be reforged
  • Collectible cloaks to personalize your appearance
  • Collectible music tapes to be played in your home, expanding the original soundtrack through exploration
  • Hostile alien creatures to be avoided or confronted with optional combat designed to be simple, satisfying, and non-intrusive
  • Complex secret endgame mechanics hidden in the darkest, most distant of worlds
  • And more!

The Story

To the few who still survive among the starlit ruins, the collapse of cosmic civilization is remembered as the “God Calamity.” In a single moment, countless planets and stars were torn asunder by fingers of an unseen force—fingers that still cradle the mangled fragments in the sky, frozen against the flow of gravity. The universe had shattered like a pane of glass, and something beyond a veil of darkness is preventing it from healing. What caused this calamity, and why does the universe refuse to heal? The truth is in fragments—but the pieces are all out there, waiting to be put back together. Search for answers among the broken stars. Piece together the hidden history of an unfathomably ancient universe. Take back the skies that once belonged to your precursors.

Follow the journey of the anaklyte across eons—a starry-eyed civilization of biomechanical aliens that refused submission to a malicious cosmos.  Learn of their struggle to persist and connect the stars within a dark forest universe, their discovery of hidden physics within the deepest layers of reality, their mysterious origins and their connection to an eldritch entity known as the God Machine.

Many strange characters wander the remnants of their bygone civilizations, all with unique stories to tell. Meet a psychovian witch who leads you on a quest to retrieve a lost artifact from a four-dimensional fissure, befriend the surreal plant-like stellacyte who grows throughout the ruins of a circumstellar particle accelerator, debate ethical philosophy with the last god of the Hyphysicalist Constructancy, and more.

The largest inspiration of the gameplay design philosophy is Yume Nikki and its many fangames. Yume Nikki was always so enthralling to me because it truly felt like you never knew what you might find, it captured the feeling of exploration perfectly. There were secrets around every corner, and a lingering sense that there were always deeper layers to the world around you. My goal is to capture and enhance that experience, adding mechanics that compliment exploration without getting in the way. And with an expansive mythos behind the world, my hope is that every discovery will feel like unlocking a piece of a larger puzzle. The more you explore, the more you’ll understand. Everything is designed around discovery.
