Resident Evil: Death Island Movie Might Feature Raccoon City Flashback

One eagle-eyed fan has spotted a “Welcome to Raccoon City” sign hidden within Death Island’s trailer.

Resident Evil: Death Island is bringing Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Rebecca Chambers together for the first time in the series history, but the fan service doesn’t end there. As one eagle-eyed viewer spotted in a new trailer, it looks like Raccoon City will be making an appearance.

There are shots of several Umbrella mercenaries gunning down infected, with one – who we know is a character named Dillan – cowering, hands over ears as everything gets too overwhelming. Given that there are zombies who refuse to die swarming the few survivors left standing, that’s understandable. Nestled within these shots is a blink-and-you-miss-it sign saying ‘Raccoon City’.

It’s the signature welcome sign, shown during a scene in which the Umbrella Mercenaries are walking along the main road. We know that Raccoon City was nuked at the end of Resident Evil 2 and 3, so they’re not going back there in the current day, meaning that this is likely a flashback segment to introduce Dillan as the villain, seemingly surviving because he hid rather than fought back.

Jill appears to know Dillan, so it isn’t clear if she met him at some point during Resident Evil 3’s story when she was also in Raccoon City, or if they met while she was under Albert Wesker’s control in Resident Evil 5. The latter is far more likely, but until the movie releases, we can only speculate.

Looking at other legacy characters, @Sisslethecat noticed an intriguing detail with Rebecca. For the first time in 26 years, she has a new haircut, finally updating her look which is something that can’t be said for others like Jill who, because of the T-Virus, don’t age. Convenient.

The trailer also gave us a look at all five characters side-by-side pointing their pistols. These characters have never shared the screen together all at once, and it’s the first time that Chris and Claire have reunited since Code Veronica back in 2000. Unless you count Fortnite.

Fans are ecstatic to see their favorites meet up, but some are skeptical that it’ll be for more than one scene, expecting them to get separated or to only come together at the end for this final showdown. Whatever the case, it’s a monumental moment in Resident Evil’s history.
