Niantic has confirmed that Trainers who usually use Facebook as their choice of login cannot currently use that option for Pokemon Go.
This appears to be part of the wider outage currently affecting the Facebook platform, and login options are expected to return when the issues are solved.
Here’s the latest from Niantic, who confirmed in a new statement: “If you currently log into Pokémon GO or Ingress using Facebook, this login method is currently unavailable.
“We’re closely monitoring this issue and will provide an update. In the meantime, you can still access both games via alternate login methods. Thanks for your patience.”
It’s unclear what is causing the large outage on Facebook today or how long it might last.
Facebook just confirmed the issues with its service with a spokesperson saying: “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
However, this doesn’t contain any information on when the popular social app and its messenger service will be online again.
At the time of writing, independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered over 2,000 reports from users insisting Facebook is plagued with an outage.
A map on the site showed the UK, US and large areas of Europe are affected by the connection issues.
It’s expected that when Facebook servers go back online, Pokemon Go sign in options for the platform will resume, as this isn’t an issue on Niantic’s end.
