Minecraft Earth’s release date is a step closer this week, as Mojang opens closed beta registration.

Minecraft Earth is a brand new augmented reality game in which players must gather resources, complete challenges and build structures.

This exciting new Minecraft experience doesn’t have a full release date, but fans can play soon by signing up to the closed beta.

As confirmed over on the Minecraft Earth website, participants must be over 18 and own a smartphone that runs at least Android 7 or iOS 10.

Better yet, early adopters will also receive an exclusive skin for free – provided you’ve got a Microsoft account.

“Sign up below to receive updates for the game, get your free skin for Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Bedrock, and for a chance to be one of the first to play Minecraft Earth,” reads a Mojang post. “The skin is only available for a limited time, so sign up today!

“To play in the closed beta, you’ll need a mobile device that runs at least Android 7 or iOS10. We’ll need your Microsoft or Xbox Live account, app store log-in, and answers to a few questions to complete your registration.”

Mojang has revealed more about the upcoming release in a new blog post, explaining 

“Meet up with like-minded crafters and create masterpieces together. Work on a smaller scale with friends before taking your builds out into the wild at full size.

“You can even team up with others for mini-adventures!

“Your real-life neighborhood takes on a whole new dimension thanks to Minecraft Earth. Gather resources, take on challenges, and share your imagination with others. There’s a whole new world to discover!”
