Space shooting game with fully implemented hand tracking & fitness. Help us cross the finish line!
Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. Meteoric VR is a small indie game developing studio based in Prague. They’ve been working on Meteoric VR for almost 2 years and are now on the final stretch.
Meteoric VR is a low poly first-person space shooter where players defend planets from falling meteors. It has fully implemented hand-tracking, adaptive music and it‘s also great fitness. Thanks to its unique shooting mechanic, players work out their arms and shoulders in short, intense levels. Each level represents another opportunity to dominate the leaderboards and become the best player. There is always room for improvement. You need good aim but also speed. Shoot down not only attacking meteors, focus also on small fragments and orbiting asteroids. Thanks to a progressive scoring system, the faster your reaction is, the more points you get.

Hand tracking: This is our signature shooting mechanic where a player moves his whole hand forward to shoot. Laser shots come directly from his palms to make the player feel like a superhero.

Destructions: Hitting every asteroid is satisfying with our new 3D animations. As shown, asteroids disintegrate into many small pieces which you can also shoot down.

Fitness: Play intensively for at least 10 minutes straight, get sweaty, and exercise your arms and shoulders. The more often you play, the more fit you will eventually get.

By backing this amazing project, Meteoric VR`s target is to hit the most popular platforms in the VR world – Oculus Store & SteamVR. The game currently supports the following headsets:
- Oculus Quest 2
- Oculus Rift
- HTC Vive
- Valve Index
Through this campaign, Meteoric VR would like to broaden the headset spectrum by adding PlayStation VR and a Chinese native platform IQIYI. Their primary goal is to complete the single-player and a Mobile + VR multiplayer. They have already finished the basic gameplay mechanics for the single-player, however, there is still a lot of stuff that needs to be worked on.

The originally planned development of single-player is almost done, however, the team has more ideas that they‘d like to bring to life before the full game reaches online stores. They have already spent their initial budget and that‘s why they created this Kickstarter campaign. To meet the vision they have for the game, especially the multiplayer, they know it is time to add community involvement. Good is never enough. They want to deliver the best product possible and that‘s why they need your help.
It all began more than 2 years ago when the founding father Petr Le decided to pursue his dream to make a virtual reality game. He had no previous experience in game development, so he had to learn everything the hard way. He was intensively self-learning and discovering Unity software for some time and later decided to search for some funding for the project. This mission was successful and Petr got a chance to work on the game full-time and therefore even quit his previous full-time job. It allowed him to hire a few contractors to help him with game development, programming, music creation, 3D modelling, etc. Today, 3 of us work in a small office in Prague and the rest of the contractors are remote.

The goal is to create an easy to play – hard to master game that players of all ages can instantly understand. “I’ve always wanted to create an environment where players feel like superheroes that can shoot laser shots from their palms,” says the founder who is a huge fan of Iron Man movies. This was technically possible due to a new VR headset technology native to Oculus Quest 2 which offers a hand tracking feature. A feature that eliminates the need for holding controllers during gameplay.

Shooting: Their signature mechanic is where you move your whole hand forward to shoot. No need to press any buttons on your controllers, simply make the move and fire.

Charging: Close your hand, wait for the laser to charge energy, open your hand and release an instant shot. It will eventually give you more time to target other asteroids.

Crystal catching: Get a time-limited power-up if you catch a flying crystal. Players must open and straighten their arms to be able to catch it. Crystals always fly in head area.

Shield: Eliminate UFO enemy shots by covering yourself with the shield. Rotate your hand towards you and close your fist. It can take an unlimited amount of enemy damage.

Dragon beam: Charge the energy ball in-between your hands and aim precisely on your targets. It produces a constant laser beam that lasts for a certain period of time.

In November 2021, the team decided to attend Czech National Esports Championship and join a VR Expo at the event. They only had a tiny table and two Oculus Quest 2 headsets but were able to test the beta on more than 100 visitors to the event. Honestly, it was a great moral and motivational boost for the team to see that people are really enjoying Meteoric VR. The majority of people gave very positive feedback that helped make a demo version.

On January 6th, Meteoric VR released a demo version available for free on Sidequest and App Lab. Many players joined their Discord server to request a beta access with more levels after playing the demo. They tried to collect as much feedback as possible and implement some of the suggestions into the game. Oculus Quest 2 users can still get the free demo – simply click on the image below that will get you on Sidequest.com.
