Ahead of its release next February.

Developer Tarsier’s original Little Nightmares was a macabre delight, a gorgeously wrought puzzle-platformer queasily hovering somewhere between dark fairy tale adorable and deeply unsettling; however, the studio has leaned hard on the latter for its latest look at highly anticipated sequel Little Nightmares 2, which is due to arrive in February next year.

Although Tarsier calls Little Nightmares 2 a sequel, the developer’s so far been a little cagey when it comes to placing its action within the series’ timeline. What we do know, however, is that it once again stars Six – the yellow raincoat wearing moppet last seen exploring the shadowy bowels of the Maw in the original Little Nightmares – only, this time, she’s joined by new friend Mono.

It’s Mono that players control in this follow-up – Six’s actions are handled by the AI – and the pair embark on an adventure that, in contrast to its predecessor, frequently takes place outdoors. Not that the experience is likely to be any less claustrophobic, given the perpetual fog and shadow engulfing Mono and Six’s off-kilter world.

Although the resulting adventure follows the same basic template as its predecessor, unfolding as a gloomy mix of side-on platform and puzzling, a few wrinkles are set to emerge, such as the opportunity to (rather feebly) wield items and weapons when situations demand it.

And, of course, Mono and Six will confront another oddball assortment of deeply disturbed adults – including the newly revealed Doctor – many of whom form the focus of Tarsier’s wonderfully sinister new trailer.

Little Nightmares 2 is currently scheduled to skulk onto PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on 11th February next year, and a free next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will follow at a currently unspecified future point. And if you’re interested to know more, you might be able to glean a few additional clues from Emma’s interview with Tarsier from late last year.
