LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Looks Like a Completionist’s Nightmare or Dream

0

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a week away, and may just be one of the hardest LEGO games to 100%, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

From the earliest days of LEGO games, collectables have been a massive focus of the experience. Even early games like LEGO Racers 2 put an emphasis on finding secrets, with Golden Bricks being required to journey to the next area of the game. As LEGO games have evolved, as have their collectables. In any given LEGO game from 2005 onwards, there are at least three types of collectables: Minikits, Red Bricks, and Golden Bricks. With the release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga next week, LEGO games’ range of collectables is about to get even bigger.

Though all the details haven’t been given just yet, it seems as though LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is going to be the biggest LEGO game yet, with by far the most collectables. For fans of past LEGO games, and those who strive to get 100% in them, The Skywalker Saga‘s abundance of bricks and tokens is an exciting prospect. However, for those with limited time on their hands, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga may seem more daunting than they had expected.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Has a Lot of Collectibles

Put plainly, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has a lot of collectables. Though the exact numbers are still a little up in the air right now, most sources seem to report that there will be a total of 1166 Kyber Bricks in the game. These Kyber Bricks will be used to upgrade character classes, and unlock new abilities.

Based on the trailers released so far, it seems as though players will be tripping over these Bricks at every turn. Completing main story levels, side missions, and exploring the environment will all net the player these glowing blue Bricks. For completionists, seeing the counter in the corner of the screen tick up with every find is sure to be satisfying, but for those looking to put in just an hour a night, these collectables might be a little overwhelming.

These Kyber Bricks are also joined by character and vehicle tokens that are similarly unlocked through main missions, side quests, and exploration. Finding one of these tokens unlocks an iconic Star Wars character or vehicle for purchase. From the behind-the-scenes material, it seems as though there are over 400 characters and vehicles in the game. So, when paired with the Kyber Bricks, and possibly some extra collectables like Red Bricks, players looking to 100% the game will need to find over 1500 pick-ups.

For more casual players, the sheer amount of collectables may act as more of a turn-off than a selling point. A good portion of those picking up LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will want to play through their favourite Star Wars moments, and play as their favourite Star Wars characters. For those with limited time on their hands, being forced to finish a specific level, to unlock a planet, so they can find a side mission to unlock their desired character might be a little too overwhelming and time-consuming.

Plenty of Brick For Your Buck

On the other hand, those who have been looking forward to this game since its announcement all the way back in Summer 2019 are likely going to want to spend as much time with this game as possible. So, for that sub-sect of players, the prospect of having to find over 1500 collectables across 24 open worlds is more exciting than intimidating.

By having such a high number of collectables, the game will likely encourage players to go out of their way and take part in the game’s side content, and explore all of these hand-crafted Star Wars worlds, as the more the player explores, the more they’re rewarded. While some players will probably just want to speed straight to their favourite Star Wars movie and rush to unlock their favourite character, having all of this extra content will likely keep some players hooked for quite some time. And with all the effort that’s seemingly gone into LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, it’s good that players are being encouraged to explore all of the developer’s hard work.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases April 5, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
