Kickstarter Project: Ominouscent

A story about a girl who suddenly vanishes as if she had never existed. A friend embarks on a mission to find out the truth.

Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. Ryan Young of Cheongju-Si, South Korea, combines a passion for mystery, sci-fi, urban legends, and video games to create an episodic video game series. His first project is called Ominouscent, a story about a girl who suddenly disappears without a trace, vanishing out of sight, mind, and memory of others. Except for one friend, who embarks on a mission to find out the truth behind what happened to her.

Ryans passion for mystery and video games began when he was just seven years old when he was first introduced to the game Resident Evil. The experience was intense at first, given Ryans age at the time, but he soon found a passion within these games. A couple of years later, Ryan stumbled upon a psychological horror game series called Silent Hill, and again, found himself falling in love with the series. He spent the next couple of decades experiencing the gaming world from the eyes of a player rather than a developer. During that time, Ryan found another passion which was East-Asian urban legends. He was also introduced to the game Deltarune by a fellow student. A 2D game that he grew to love, especially after learning that its developer Toby Fox was also in a similar place as Ryan today.

Long story short, Ryan ended up putting this playable demo together within the span of a few months, surpassing his project plan, which you can find here. It shows where Ryan started, where he is now, and where he plans to go with this project in the not-so-far future. Thankfully, Ryan has managed all of that while working as a full-time teacher, which is as much of a noble profession that is, he does not quite enjoy doing nowadays. The reason behind the relatively quick turnaround was the fact that Ryan had been spending most of his free time working on this project. That is before, during, and after work. Almost any free time was spent on this project.

There are a few reasons why Ryan is trying to raise funds for the next chapter of this entry. The not-so-obvious one is that Ryan needs to gauge people’s interest in the idea to find out whether it’s even worth doing, to begin with. The second reason is the more obvious one: Ryan is trying to raise enough money to buy more time, Time that’ll allow him to work on this project full-time and without having to worry about the elephant in the room as we all have bills to pay. With that being said, Ryan hopes that you’ll enjoy this demo. We have included a couple of links here. One for the gameplay demo, and one for the project plan that Ryan has been following. As you’ll see, Ryan is currently ahead of schedule, although he may not quite be finished with the debugging phase for Chapter I.
