For the quantum leap in gaming AI.
Tuebingen, Germany, 06.12.2021 – Marbles AI takes mobile gaming to a new level. As Quantum Gaming’s first AI game project, the open-world multiplayer life simulation is based on state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI). Developed by a team around founder and CEO Dr. Fabian Schrodt, the little Marbles come to life using the “brAIn engine”. This is based on his award-winning research on Mario AI (Video1, Video2) and social intelligence as well as mirror neurons and neural networks – unlike a classic video game bot, the Marbles do not follow pre-programmed patterns, but learn new things on their own and live their own lives.
● Award-winning AI meets open-world multiplayer life simulation
● A whole (simulated) life on a smartphone
● Kickstarter launch on 06.12.2021
Quantum Gaming is an official spin-off of the University of Tübingen and is funded by the German Computer Games Funding of the BMVI. In addition, Quantum Gaming is part of the Cyber Valley Startup Network, which brings together the most promising AI startups in Europe’s largest AI research consortium. To take the project to the next evolutionary stage, Quantum Gaming is now planning a corresponding Kickstarter project that will launch on Dec. 6.
From the lab, straight to the smartphone
Marbles AI ventures the leap from modern AI research to the smartphone. The underlying brAIn engine is the result of an award-winning research project and allows Marbles to not only mimic human intelligence but replicate actual flexible thinking. Such programs are already widely used in research, but hardly so in the video game landscape.
While conventional video game bots follow pre-programmed rules and cannot deviate from them, Marbles learn in real-time. They draw their own conclusions from previous experiences and – based on this – can also deal with unforeseen events. So every obstacle and every task is also a chance for a Marble to learn something completely new. The interaction with the players has a significant influence on their intelligence and skills.
Designed as a mobile game, the Marbles are independent everyday companions for the players. Every time they start the game on their Android or iOS device and visit their Marble, they have the opportunity to learn something new together with it. The players control the environment and world of the Marbles to enrich their lives, helping them to navigate and continue learning in the 3D multiplayer world.
Be there when an AI is born!
Marbles AI is a technical pilot project that not only sets new standards in AI learning. The fun of playing the game is by no means neglected. The game, therefore, appeals to a particularly broad target group. For the next big step of the promising gaming AI, the developer team is now looking for supporters. For this reason, Quantum Gaming is launching a crowdfunding project for Marbles AI on Kickstarter on December 6, 2021. As usual, on the platform, the campaign offers exclusive insights into the project as well as numerous incentives to participate in the realization.
For example, backers will receive earlier access to a beta version, exclusive items for their Marbles, and premium Marbles with exclusive features. Via regular online FAQs, supporters will be informed directly by CEO Dr. Fabian Schrodt and the developers about the status of development.

Fascination Marbles
Take care of them!
Like any living creature, a Marble comes into the world as a helpless baby. The players collect resources to be able to offer their Marble everything that is needed. Food, companionship, and recreation play a central role, just as they do for us.
Teach them something!
The Marbles must first discover their environment in order to understand it. This is how a personality is slowly formed. What is learned becomes a habit – and old habits are sometimes difficult to break.
Put them in motion!
A swipe across the screen draws a Marble’s attention to a place. It will try to explore it, if it is experienced enough to master the way. If she expects nice things there, she might return later, but if she expects a negative experience, she will avoid the place.
Praise her.
Depending on whether Marbles are praised or blamed for their behaviour, they learn the difference between right and wrong.
Give them a gift!
Marbles can be customized, equipped with AI upgrades, and provided with food, toys, pets, or furniture. What the Marbles do with it? No one knows, except for themselves. By interacting with these items, Marbles learn entirely new behaviours.
About Quantum Gaming and Marbles AI:
Quantum Gaming is a spin-off of the University of Tübingen, founded in 2020 with support from the Innovation Grant of the Excellence Initiative. The goal is to translate cutting-edge AI research into games. The founder and CEO is Dr. Fabian Schrodt. Marbles AI® is inspired by the teaching and research project “Mario AI”, which Dr. Fabian Schrodt led at the University of Tübingen from 2014 to 2018. Mario AI gained international prominence in 2015, winning the Peoples’ Choice Award from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. He received the Best Paper Award (2014-2016) from the German Cognitive Science Society and the Innovation Grant for his dissertation research on the neurocomputational basis of social intelligence.
Marbles AI® has been in development since April 2018. From 2018-2020, the prototype of Marbles AI® was developed by the Quantum Gaming team. Marbles AI® is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. For final funding, Quantum Gaming has launched a Kickstarter campaign on 06/12/2021.
