Kickstarter Project: Le Royaume – Artistic playing cards

0

An artistic playing card game based on the Royaume larp. Un jeu de carte artistique basé sur le grandeur nature le Royaume.

Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. Ebmocal Studio is an independent multimedia company that makes infographic contracts, websites and video games. Olivier Lacombe, a graphic designer, teacher and fellow LARPER from Montréal, Canada, specializes in narration and creating immersive games. It’s in collaboration with Les productions Le Royaume and Lesluv that she started floating the idea of creating derived products straight from their own Larp universe, Le Royaume. The team then decided that they should make the dream a reality by creating their first project: Le Royaume playing cards.

Backed by a solid creative team and many collaborators, they have already created a complete book filled with the lore and history from our LARP universe and amazing artwork made by the artist Lesluv.

This Kickstarter will finance the impression and shipping process of the playing cards. Olivier was startled when she saw the new prices of the printing and shipping process for a project like this one, thanks to covid. As a full-time independent artist, she would like to personally thank each and every one of you who donates to this amazing project.

This card game is entirely based on the lore and history from Le Royaume – Grandeur Nature. Each card is designed with icons from some nations of the universe, and the pack is divided into 4 big suits from high to low: The Imperial, The Karak, The Ethari and The tribal.

L’Impériale

The great Valador conquered all known territories, created an Empire from them and it rules over the lands with great strength. They honour Tyr and Cassia, two ancestors that made Valadorian history and both represent two different ideals and perspectives. Tyr (the Queen’s card) represents justice, goodness, sharing, but mostly self-sacrifice. Cassia (the King’s card) represents imperialism, patriotism, severity and conquest.

Isaek Valador ( Jack’s card) is the most beloved leader in all of Valador’s history and some even say that everything panned out the way it did because of him, seen as Tyr’s reincarnation himself. The fall of Dell, the proclamation of king’s as emperors, the conquest of all the lands and territories; All of these events followed shortly after Isaek Valador’s death.

The Karak

The Karak mountains are inhabited by two distinct nations: The Aznaars and the Laarsens. The Aznaars are the leaders of the western parts of the mountains, imposing their rules by their commercial force and domination. They still follow to this day the lifelong vision that Theandrar Aznaar (the queen’s card), the first great matron of the land, had for them.

The Laarsens live in the east part of the mountains since the dawn of time. As a calm and stable nation, they respect their ancestors and are the birthplace of invocation magic, which was discovered by Daertha Kaskadir (the king’s card), their most worshipped ancestor.
Nara du clan Blanchêne (Jack’s card) was one of the best bards of all time and all nations. No one could resist her beautiful voice and enchanting songs.

The Ethari

Erubie is the most ancient nation, built and formed by the first humans ( back then named ‘’ fangless’’). They are led by a Sun’S high priest and a Moon’s high priestess. Isethra sin Menril (the queen’s card) is one of them, the most beloved high priestess there. She did so much for the nation that her name will be praised for years to come by the erubeans.

The D’Orlaloys are formed by retired Valadorian soldiers, fired from the Emperor Talebot Valador to diminish the high cost of the army about 30 years ago. Cabriel de Tierse (the king’s card) then took leadership of the ones left behind and tried to negotiate. Unfortunately, it became a devastating war before they were offered the city of Torombe, which then became an independent state of the Empire.

La Quêpe (The Jack’s card) is by far the most dreaded pirate of the Ethari. No one knows from which nations she comes from, but everyone knows one thing: If she ever crosses your path, your shipment will most definitely be hers.

The tribal

Noldirs are extremely honest both in their words and their free lifestyle. Their citizens work very little, preferring a life of drinking and partying instead. They honour the last forerunner, sacrificed to guide the many lost souls. The first forerunner in the nation’s history was Hallbera (the queen’s card). She sacrificed herself to help and guide the lost souls of her people back towards the cycle.

Commonly called people of the sand, Ozgaroths were created from the Eldari prisoners corrupted by the black magic of Zafairiel. The modern Ozgaroths that we now encounter are the humans or bastards that lived freely or were enslaved by the previous prisoners. They are divided into many clans, a chieftain reigning every single one of them in a supreme manner. The most famous of them is Shoran (the king’s card), the chief of the Nashrall clan. She was the only one able to gather and unify all of the clans in order to march against Valador. Amarasha (Jack’s card) is the first Ozgaroth to see her artistic talent increased tenfold by Zafairiel’s curse and a clan was founded in her name, representing the honour of art and the Ozgaroth culture, named Amarasha’s feathers.

The jokers

The Tamaures are more of a community than a traditional society where personal possessions, money and nobility don’t exist. The Tamaure Republic’s people prioritize mutual aid and sharing above all else. Every member of their community is highly educated and they have very stiff opinions on the world. They are not open-minded when faced with other ways of thinking or lifestyles than theirs. Addranyc of the third house ( left card) is recognized as the second greatest enchanter after Gwyn Saarel. He created the Wood-tree in which each fruit brings longevity and health to its people.

Hamaaris live in the swamps north of the continent. They come from a detachment of 58 humans that decided back then to live as far away as possible from the Eldari’s war. The men, most affected by the toxic vapours of the swamps, hallucinated and paranoid enemies, native tribes and hostile creatures. The five strongest women survived the swamps’ hostilities, each of them having one big quality. They were called the Foremothers: Kailani (Vigilance), Ketsada (Vigor), Makena (Intelligence), Lilo (Luck, right card) and Lanikai (Strength).

The playing card’s design is also available via Tabletop Simulator, where you can download it for free here.

Larp stands for Live Action Role Playing. A game in which you are to be impersonating a character in a fantastic universe. It’s kind of a big theatrical show where everybody plays a role and can be the hero depending on their moves and choices.

In Le Royaume Grandeur Nature, we thrive on making people feel real emotions, eat food and listen to music inspired by cultures all around the world in a deep lore of mythical and mysterious heroes and nations. Our greatest pride still resides in the universe we created with its deep lore, mysteries, and heroes that make it come to life and make it all the more fantastical.

Risks and challenges:

The team work with local producers for everything where possible, with the cards and boxes being produced and assembled within 100km of Montreal, Québec. Because of this, they have excellent communication and often in-person supervision of the production processes employed. They take care of everything from design to production and fulfilment, so are fully in control of every stage of the process. That said, the world has changed a lot in the past few years and for this; they are increasing our expected production schedules not so much due to the production itself, but the world of shipping has become more complex and delays are commonplace, especially for large international shipments.
