Welcome to the mobile game where you help create a forest-filled future with a tap of your screen

Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. Kodama World encourages players on the mobile-based social media game to give back to Earth while also housing lost Kodama. The goal is to increase global awareness and inspire individual action through gaming that helps our planet. YOU PLAY, THEY PLANT!!

Growing a new virtual home for the tree spirit or Kodama while Kodama World plant real-life trees. In this way, you’re not just playing the game; you’re helping our planet by reducing the effects of deforestation and greenhouse gases.

We believe that everyone has the power to make a difference, and the Kodama World game is a dynamic and fun way to help our planet.

They’re giving the phrase “green thumb” a new use. Kodama World is designed to give you the power of exponential impact from the tap of your screen. It is their mission to help reforest our earth, but cannot do it alone! Through your powerful gaming skills and their trusted planting partners, together, we can create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help people most affected by climate change!

Our team wanted to create a game that would completely transform the gaming world by not only providing an enjoyable experience for the player but also making them a part of a large movement that is designed to fight climate change. That’s why we created Kodama World, the world’s first mobile game that allows players to plant trees in the real world as they plant and grow trees on their virtual screens.

Kodama World is a 2D game where the general goal is to germinate seeds, grow saplings, and plant trees in a repeated loop. After planting a seed, fertilizing, and watering it for the first time, it will take 24 hours for the seed to grow into a seedling. As a player, you will then have to water the seedling for several days to grow it into a sapling; at the end of this process, the sapling will be ready for planting. You can grow multiple trees at the same time. Every time a tree is planted, a Kodama will return “home” to the tree.

Kody Kodama will be your main point of contact during tutorials. Kody will be the first character you interact with and will guide you through the game. Your interactions with the Kody as well as other Kodamas will be through simple text dialogue boxes. You will simply need to tap the screen to advance Kody’s messages.

The Arboretum: The Arboretum is where you will spend much of the game. This large natural environment is where you will take care of all of your plants. You can view your Arboretum at any time by tapping on the “View Arboretum” button on the main menu.

The Seed Box: The Seed Box is where you will collect and store your seeds.

The Tree Map: The Tree Map is arguably the most important screen in the game which demonstrates your overall progress toward repopulating Kodama World. As you plant more trees on the map, the map will fill out.

In the case of Kodama World, together we hold the power for a huge difference. Your childlike curiosity and an appreciation for nature can change our world! As an individual, you are important to our planet’s ecosystem. As a community, we’re even stronger when we focus a series of small efforts together to combat the effects of deforestation.

Kodama World mini-games take inspiration from classic games we know and LOVE like, Pachinko (and many more) – where players send balls crashing against other colourful objects while trying to score points or earn bonuses based on how high up on the screen they’ve been placed at certain moments during gameplay. Here’s our take during the mini-gameplay:

  • Once a player has selected their seed, they are taken to a special screen. It is where you can launch your mini-game into action!

  • The process starts by placing whatever “spring” or mount point that will serve as the launching area. You then see a gauge representing how strong/lightweight its spring is – depending on what strength the finger is released at.

  • The seed will be released from the player’s finger and will bounce around the play space. The seed should circularly collide with other seeds. As gravity pulls it down, the seed will end up in one of three patches of dirt. (i.e, the arid patch of dirt will make it take +1 day for the seed to grow into a seedling vs. an immediate sprout when landed on the fertile soil).

Risks and challenges

Our challenge is building the infrastructure that supports tree planting in the real world and making it work seamlessly with our game. We aim to show people how trees grow from saplings. Our greatest desire is to captivate our users with this growth process simulation. This is something that has never been done before, so it’s a bit daunting but we are up to the challenge! Not taking this initiative for the future of our planet is a much bigger risk. It’s honestly very scary! The potential reward is that we partner with you, plant thousands, possibly millions of trees together and help save the planet and our fellow humans and beloved animals. There is so much content and thought behind our campaign, and that’s why it’s crucial to receive your support.

Rewards for backing this project start from as little as Ten Dollars and include your name in the credits on the Kodama World, a tree planted in your name, Kodama World water bottles and more. For a full breakdown of the rewards available, check out their crowdfunding page on Kickstarter.
