A quick, 2-5 player strategic push your luck game of planetary survival!
Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another amazing Kickstarter project. Brainwave Games is a family-owned and operated game design company that is focused on building the games that you will reach for time and time again.
Launching a game company in the middle of a pandemic may not have been the most optimal time to start, but they are already geared up with the launch of their first Kickstarter. Brainwave Games, a game design studio built with a single goal: making games that help bring the family to the table so everyone can enjoy and play together. We cover all kinds of games and game types, from a worker placement racing game featuring monsters to a survival co-op game about building outposts on the moons of Jupiter and everything in between!
Escape from a Dying Planet is a lightweight, push your luck bidding game where you play as one of the unfortunate expedition team members trying to escape the planet. The game comprises 10 rounds, each round posing a new challenge that players have to avoid, such as a Lightning Storm or an Exploding Expedition Camp. To do so, they have to play cards in their hand, expending energy, to overcome this obstacle. However, each obstacle also brings relics you see. In order to grab these Treasures, you must expend energy to grab them on your way to the escape craft. Fear not, for you can attempt to do both! However, your bids for both will be significantly weaker and you may not accomplish both tasks, so be sure to choose wisely because there are only so many treasures and your time is running out.
The Story So Far:
Who knew that landing on a potentially unstable yet exponentially profitable planet would’ve had consequences? Lo-and-behold, the predictable has happened, and the planet has started to collapse. But fear not! The Planetary Development Corporation (PDC) has sent along a life pod with your expedition in case something bad happened. However, they’re not going to just let any old survivor of a cataclysmic event in! You have to prove your value to the PDC, and you do that by bringing back the rarest and most priceless artefacts from your expedition. If you can, it looks like a life of leisure and riches await. If you can’t, then you don’t have to worry about it for very long…
The Set Up:
You are part of an expedition team sent to a planet in order to get valuable relics and treasures from a long-dead civilization. However, during your expedition, the very unstable planet starts to collapse. You have to get out of there! You know there’s a ship waiting to take you off the planet. However, the company that owns it, the Planetary Development Corporation, isn’t looking to just save any person. They want the one that will get them the most profit. Do you want to escape on the ship? You’re going to have to prove your worth.
Escape from a Dying Planet was designed as an easy to teach filler game with a higher player count. While the base game plays up to 5, the Escalation expansion adds new players, allowing it up to 8 total. In addition, the expansion also makes the game harder by ramping up the difficulty on challenge cards and even making your player decks weaker! However, not everything is harder, as the Planetary Development Corporation is here to assist you with Supply Kits! These give you bonuses that you add to your player deck to help you with later on.
Pledges start from as little as five dollars, which gets you an early copy of the game which you can download and play right now. Obviously, the more you pledge, the more rewards you receive, such as the complete card game in a box with mat, pin and t-shirt (see below).
The week after our Kickstarter concludes, Brainwave Games will reach out to you to get your shipping address while reaching out to the manufacturer about getting started with production. You will have 1 month to get back to them about shipping. After that, it should take about 2-3 weeks for the order to be fulfilled and ready to ship. Brainwave Games expect their order heading off across the ocean mid-to-late February and waiting with eager anticipation the few months it’ll take to travel on its cruise and reach Brainwave Games in the US, which puts it around June. Then, when they get the packages, they can start shipping things out within the week of receiving them and hopefully you should have it by August. This schedule is subject to change and the team will keep you updated as it progresses.
