A true open-world multiplayer survival experience, traversing harsh biomes, quenching thirst, lust for gold, and seeking revenge.

Game Geeks News are proud to bring you yet another amazing project currently running on kickstarter. Dunes is an Open World Multi-Player Survival Game, Developed and Produced by Overclock Studios, LLC. Dunes is a pure-sandbox multiplayer, survival game experience. Players will fight to survive on a harsh and dangerous island. Resources are scarce, wildlife is relentless, and there is always the threat of other survivors. Gather and farm resources to build a shelter in an open-world free building system. Defend your home from outside threats at all costs. Choose to explore solo or with friends. Gathering raw materials such as; weapons, gold, and food will help you along your journey.

Dunes was developed with multiplayer survival intention. Knowing and understanding the massive challenges will help you achieve this goal. OverClockStudiosLLC plan to build and support a well-balanced, open-world multiplayer survival experience throughout the life of Dunes. Whether the journey you take on the island of Dunes is solo or you embark with a team, they strive to build a perfectly balanced gameplay. The game includes innovative; day-night cycles, resource spawn times, player economy, loot tables, containers, and other crates on our island. The team understands the challenges that present themselves in multiplayer combat; mixing different play styles, the potential to be outnumbered in conflicted situations – the main focus for the team will always be balancing their multiplayer gameplay.

The world awaits you, traveller – but, be careful what you wish for, the outcome may be different than you anticipated.

The Ocean – Vast, deep, and dark – the Island of Dunes has a mainland however, it is broken up into various smaller sections to maximize exploration and curiosity. The ocean in Dunes is procedurally generated to give the survivors an expanded experience, flexibility, and to provide an immersive aspect.

The ocean is littered with wildlife, some hostile, some non-hostile creatures. Whether your intentions are to explore, hunt, or find secrets within, there is always a reason to dive into the vast depths of the ocean.

The Open World – The island of Dunes is 400 square kilometres, a completely open-world, sectioned off by smaller islands to explore. The outer ocean banks are surrounded by deep jungles, rocky shores, and treacherous, dry heat. In this world, you will find the sky’s always bluer, the sand’s always golden, the clouds are always plush-white. The main desert island is hot and arid. Small patches of palm trees, cactus, and plants are absolutely necessary for survival. Only the strongest survivor can withstand the dehydration caused by lack of water. Only the strongest will survive. There are many treasures hidden throughout the world. Take time to discover all the landscape offers – random airplane crash sites, water treatment plants, animal boneyards, lighthouses, shipwrecks, large settlements – You will find endless content in Dunes. Immerse yourself on the island and you will quickly discover the opportunities to collect gold coins and the value they provide to aid in your survival and prosperity. Bribing, bartering, and stashing gold coins are sure to help you through tough situations.

Weather System – In Dunes weather is generated by a systematic code providing a natural, dynamic, interpretation of realistic weather systems. Clear skies, foggy grounds, in-climate weather, and even harsh sandstorms help to ensure that each day/night cycle on the island feels unique.

Inventory System – A grid-based, single-boxed inventory system gives new and experienced survivors a quick solution to managing their inventory. If you’re on the run, standing in place, or in a “think quick” situation, the Dunes inventory system allows survivors the ability to switch items quickly for movement and adjustments. You will be able to transfer items between players. Stash freely, obtain personal inventory containers, or even drop items on the ground quickly for others to pick up. This system was designed for easy deposit to many crafting tables, campfires, and furnaces. Our starting goal was to create an inventory system that eased load management, without character weight limits. In Dunes, we want players to enjoy the world, rather than be held back by overly complicated systems.

Resources – The resources on the island of Dunes may be scarce, however, the variety is plentiful. All resources have importance in Dunes, whether it’s a plant fibre bush or a large sulfur node – all survivors of the island will quickly come to understand not a single resource must be wasted. Main Survival Resources will expand as development continues. Hunting Wildlife – The most dangerous aspect of the island – In Dunes, the wildlife roam free. All of the species on the island of Dunes possess certain instincts and characteristics. It is kill or be killed. Don’t let natural selection get the best of you. If you manage to escape with your life intact, take advantage of everything left behind. Meat, pelt, fur, bone, and fat can all be harvested and used for cooking, crafting, and other survival strategies.

Water And Food – Appearing on the island in many forms, it can be acquired in various different ways. Every drop of water is a necessity, every bite of an apple imperative, all cadavers are prudent. Will you be fortunate enough to have a full dinner plate every night or have to fight to stay alive-resting your head in a different place each night. How desperate will you get for a sip of water? Are you willing to steal, bribe, or even murder another to stay alive?.

Treasure Hunting – On the island, treasure hunters will be feared and celebrated – for they have ventured into the darkest caves, harshest environments and had countless encounters with death, all for the thrill of gold and treasure.

The master hunter in Dune, typically roams with higher tier loot, better equipment, and stronger weapons, so the island recommends you steer clear if spotted on the open desert.

Day-Night Cycle – This realistic cycle can be used to your advantage if you let it. Some may choose to venture out during the day where treasures and resources will be easier to spot. Keep in mind predators will be able to spot you easier as well. The night can help you to hide in the shadows and provide opportunities to scope out your prey or plan an attack on another players’ base.

Weapons – Your only defence on the island, without them, you remain vulnerable to other survivors and aggressive wildlife. At the beginning of your journey, with only a torch, you must collect basic resources and walk the sands as a primitive survivor.

As you learn more, harvest upgraded materials, and stake your claim in Dunes, the more valuable weapons and resources you will obtain.

In Dunes, we have implemented a weapon tier system – from primitive through tier 5. All weapons must either be found at a point of interest, landmark, inside hidden treasure, airdrop or stolen from another survivor’s base or body after killing them.

On the island, the weapon variety is grand, from primitive crossbows, pistols, shotguns to fully automatic rifles, there will always be a suitable weapon for all tasks and jobs.

The higher-tiered weapons allow attachment slots, for stock add-ons, muzzle and silencers, iron sights, and extensive ranges of powerful zoom-in lens scopes.

On the island, weapon variety is grand. Primitive crossbows, pistols, shotguns, fully automatic rifles, and the potential for more. There will always be a suitable weapon for you to manage any task.

The higher-tiered weapons will have attachment options such as; stock add-ons, a muzzle, a silencer, iron sights, and powerful zoom-in lens scopes for longer distances.

Clothing – You will start your journey completely exposed to the harsh elements of the desert, wildlife, and peers. It is highly recommended that you develop some crafting skills to help you fabricate clothing. There are different tier levels for clothing possibilities. A wide variety of options allow you to mix and match attire to create a look personalized to you. Keep in mind, some clothing will provide more protection and some will provide little to none. The choice is yours. Will you choose style over safety?.

Open-World Building – Construct, upgrade, and expand your control of the world by personalizing your own shelters. With the right resources, you will be able to build structures for any purpose you choose. Keep in mind, stronger building materials will make it harder for other players to raid your belongings. The Dunes game has included a land claim feature protecting the land around you so that others do not build on, or too near, your land. Crafty players are able to fabricate a security code system for their home. Keep your code private as this is the best place to keep your most prized possessions. A home base is a great place to store items and cook meals. The strong shelter will increase protection from other players. It is a kill or be killed environment. Be careful who you trust along your journey, not everyone is on your side. Will your lust for loot cause you to betray your allies?.

Open-World Raiding – The biggest fear for all survivors on the island of Dunes. The moments before being raided, the shock kicks in, the sounds of explosions, the smoke from guns – the rush sets in, your adrenaline pumps, thinking all of your hard work is quickly about to disappear in front of your eyes. There are only two options, lay down or defend.

In Dunes, they understand the gravity of developing an open-world survival game and how precious the time it takes to build, collect resources, and stash your loot – while also understanding the amount of time it takes to gather explosive resources, collect the weapons and gear necessary to raid another enemy or neighbouring base.

In Dunes, our number one priority is creating a balanced building and raiding system – the time it takes to build your home and the time it takes for someone to tear it down.

On both sides – harvesting building materials, managing building costs, and harvesting explosive material, and the cost of a raid.

The team feel that in Dunes, they have successfully balanced these expectations on both sides, although, additional testing from the community will help them fine-tune this balance to achieve the best of both worlds.
