Chess Heroes is an ambitious twist on the traditional game of chess for iOS and Android.
So this week Game Geeks News are proud to bring you another amazing kickstarter project, this time for Android and iOS devices. Like Chess, Chess Heroes is designed to reward skill and careful planning. Collectable Heroes replace kings, bringing unique and powerful abilities that alter the game rules in subtle and rewarding ways. Players draft minor piece powers at the start of each game that can be used to create sneaky attacks or devastating combos. Check out the video at the bottom of this article of Paul and Eli playing out a full game on a traditional chessboard.
Chess heroes will launch with 5 playable Heroes, and more will come as the game and community grow. New players will get three random heroes for free when they sign up, and the rest can be unlocked through in-app purchases along with new piece sets, hero skins, and other flair!.
The Inspiration:
Chess Heroes is about creating a game that feels like chess, but gives you that rush of having a trick up your sleeve that your opponent doesn’t expect.
To make Chess Heroes a reality, they need to raise at least $15,000.
They’ve got a really great development team geared up and ready to tackle this project (in fact they’ve already started), but pure passion isn’t quite enough. They need resources to make this game how it deserves to be made.
Every penny raised will go directly into the game – software licenses, server fees, developer tools, art, and community engagement. If they beat their goal, they have got tons of exciting features to add with stretch goals.
The global chess community is larger than ever. The team want to tap into the overlap between chess and the broader turn-based strategy genre and create a game where a Hearthstone pro and Magnus Carlsen would have an even fight (or at least an interesting one).
Chess Heroes is all about community and spreading love for the game! And they want you to be a part of it!
The team wants you to be a part of it! They’ve created a Chess Heroes Discord server for you to engage with each other and the development team. They hope for the development process to be collaborative, so really want you to join in. The more community feedback they can get during development, the better the release version will be.

Stretch Goals:
There’s a lot they want to do with Chess Heroes, but in the interest of balancing their dream vision with a realistic development timeline, they’ve set out to build what they think is the best first version of the game. If they happen to raise more, then they can add more – a lot more.
If Chess Heroes reach a goal, they’ll post a stretch goal. If they reach that, they’ll post another.

Risks and challenges:
Chess Heroes have exactly the people and skillsets they need to make this happen. That’s good, but it means that if something goes wrong with one of the team, then something goes wrong with the whole project. they’re not raising enough to realistically hire any replacements in the event that a team member becomes indisposed. That said, such an event would hopefully only result in a short project delay.
