Game Geeks News are proud to bring you another amazing project currently running on kickstarter. Andrew Giancoulas is currently working on a platformer where you play as a slime, the lowest form of monster where you will fight adventures & monsters in order to progress through each level.
The funds raised will be used to pay some debt and to pay an artist to finish the artwork for the game. Andrew is currently working a Retail job part-time but with full-time hours to make ends meet. He uses his spare time working on the game. With the raised funds Andrew is hoping he will be able to focus more on the game and have it finished by December 2021.
The money will mostly go to an artist that will help Andrew finish the remaining animations for the game as no matter how hard he tries, he has been unable to do the animations himself and is not always able to find the sprites needed.
The Game Development Process so far:
Andrew has used what free art and sounds he could find so far, but that has only taken him so far in the game development process. The image below is one of the testing levels Andrew made from the free art he found. As for the coding process, Andrew is able to start building levels but lacks the necessary art to make the game work. As artwork comes in, he will need to change some code so things will work correctly.

What is the game about?:
A Slime Monster’s Adventure is about a slime, the lowest monster on the food chain.
You are trying to escape a dungeon that is filled with monsters that want to eat you and adventurers that want to kill you for experience points. You will have to fight your way through the dungeon, eventually running into heroes (bosses) that are curious why young adventurers are dying. The game will have 50 Levels, 6 boss fights, 50 different enemy types and Checkpoints (aka save spots) throughout the game.
The Lore:
Adventurers needed a place to train and level up while still being safe, so six heroes isolated in a huge chunk of forest and started capturing a variety of monsters to put in it. Some monsters were intelligent, but most were not. After capturing enough monsters on the weaker end of the monster spectrum, the heroes started allowing adventurers to train in the forest. Over time, the monsters created their own villages to better protect themselves from the adventurers. The monsters that could make their own safe zones still had to venture out for food and hunted slimes as their major source of food, as well as attacking other monsters, as the food was in high demand. But in short supply, a slime killed a wounded demon wolf and ate it. By doing so, it gained some of the monster’s power and levelled up. This was the first time this had happened as most slimes did not live long enough, or weren’t strong enough to gain experience to level up, and so the first slime to gain a level began his adventure for survival.
The Game:
Adventurers will move from room to room gaining experience from killing monsters and getting stronger. The faster you level up and kill them, the easier it will be. Take too long and they may become too powerful for the main character to take on. The rooms will be cut into blocks, each block will have one adventurer in it that can move freely between the rooms that are in that block. The player may run into them as they explore, and can either fight or try to get away from each adventurer and will have a max level they can reach so things don’t become too difficult for the player. The deeper you explore, the more likely you are to encounter a stronger adventurer.
The Player:
The player will be able to level up by killing other monsters and adventures. They will also be able to collect hidden items called slime stones that will improve the character’s stats and the player will have 3 attack types;
Ranged: Shoot a ball of slime at enemies, this will have a slight cool-down period so it can’t be spammed.
Melee: A simple melee attack.
Charge: The player will charge at the enemy.
The player will also have 2 defensive states one where they block and one where they dodge.
Villages:
The player can interact with villages after finding an item that activates a quest for that village. Villages provided food that will have different effects on the slime and quests that will allow the player to increase their reputation with the said village which will have different effects on the game.
Slime Stones:
Slime stones will increase the players’ attack, defence, speed or intellect. The player will get to choose which is increased.
Player Stats:
Attack: This Will show how much damage the player can do during gameplay.
Defence: Defence is what protects the player from attack.
Speed: This is how fast the player can dodge, attack or evade.
Evade: Evading will give the player the chance to evade and attack rather than being hit. The gameplay will have set odds, so the player can just sit there evading and mashing the attack button.
Intellect: This will affect how well the player is able to communicate will other races, if the player has low intellect, the chances of another race understanding them or the player being able to communicate properly becomes lower. The higher it is, the better the player’s chances are of talking to the monsters and convincing them.
Risks and challenges:
The biggest problem Andrew can see him facing is bugs popping up as they implement the artwork or as he builds more levels, that could prevent him from hitting the deadline.
Andrew’s hope is to prevent this and hopefully raise enough funds that will help him gain more time to fix the bugs and be able to work fewer hours each week if there is enough funding left over to hire someone to help with any bugs that might arise.
