Gridmon is a 2-player competitive tactics game that borrows elements from card games and skirmish games to allow players to immerse themselves as monster tamers, guiding their teams in combat through the arena.
Game Geeks News is thrilled to announce another amazing crowdfund campaign currently running on Kickstarter. Jesus Mendoza has finally taken the step to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for table-top game Gridmon.
Players take the role of monster tamers and capture a team of monsters to lead to battle. After assembling a team, they choose from a set of actions to form their deck and do battle against each other. Players must not only battle their opponents’ monsters but also help their starter monster accomplish their goals in order to gain victory points and come out on top after 4 rounds.
The game is set up through drafting starter monsters, common monsters and forming an action deck. Monsters are then placed on the map strategically. Each player has 3 columns and 2 monsters per column, an attacker and a defender.
On a player’s turn, they select a column that has not yet been selected. The attacker in that column attacks the opponent’s defender in that column and the attacking player may choose to play an action card face down. Afterwards, the defending player may choose to play a card and the attacking player flips their card after, allowing for hidden information.
After all columns attack, players may, in reverse order, discard a card to activate the effect of a monster in a column. This allows for powerful swings in the game and requires players to plan what cards to use and what cards to keep in order to use these tactic effects. Once all columns are done, any remaining cards in hand, the discard pile and deck are shuffled together and a new hand is drawn.
Halfway through the game, players are allowed to draft one more monster, with whichever player is losing getting first choice at the new monster, allowing for comeback moments.
Starters
There are 10 different starter Gridmon to choose from, each with their own status effect, 3 action cards and a set of powerful abilities to craft a strategy around. While this choice decides the core of your strategy, there’s plenty of other decisions to make to customize your playstyle!

Action Cards
As monsters battle, you can play action cards, each with two different effects, one for offense and the other for defense. Use these wisely to make the best of their power and make sure to hold on to a few to unleash devestating tactics each round after all the combat has ended.
Map
Players will place monsters in the arena, allowing for monsters to protect others, focus on offense or handle both sides of combat. Monsters can be used in many different ways. What strategies will you discover?
Stretch goals
Outside of the competitive mode, I’m also working on other modes to be added as stretch goals such as a cooperative mode which can be played single player, which aims to emulate the feeling of taking on powerful legendary monsters alongside your friends. Position wisely and combine your powers to take on terrifying opposition!
$4000: I will design 3 more starters to add to the game, giving you 13 to choose from with plenty of diverse strategies to try out!
$8000: I will release Gridmon’s first expansion: Ruin of the Arena. This will feature not only a single player mode, but rules to further customize your roster and rules for changing the map throughout the battle.
