Rogue Sun, a studio of former Fable devs from Lionhead, releases a new video detailing its upcoming puzzle adventure game, Tin Hearts.
UK developer Rogue Sun, which is a studio comprised of former Lionhead Studio devs that worked on the original Fable, airs a new dev diary for its upcoming game: Tin Hearts. Described as a Lemmings meets Pikmin game with an aesthetic like a Victorian Nutcracker Suite,” Tin Hearts is a puzzle adventure game where players guide toy clockwork soldiers through various obstacles in the house of their creator: Albert Butterworth.
Ahead of its release on April 20, Rogue Sun has released a new Tin Hearts dev diary as seen below (exclusively via Game Rant). In it, Rogue Sun attempts to answer the question of “What is Tin Hearts,” with various developers, including creative director Kostas Zarifis providing their own personal insights into its story and development.
Tin Hearts will be the inaugural title for Rogue Sun, though it comes with the experience of Lionhead Studio, and that was something the devs addressed. Tin Hearts started off as a small VR project that ended up growing as the ambition of the former Fable devs remained. It is still relatively small, but Rogue Sun managed to pack a lot of punch into it. As seen below, they talk about the early development of the game, how Lemmings was a style of game and gameplay that hasn’t been explored to its fullest in recent years, and how the mechanics and puzzles come together to reward the players’ progress. Developer Hugo Reis stated that “It’s a very simple game premise, but as soon as those mechanics start rolling in, they complement each other so well.
For example, Tin Hearts will introduce new machines and toys that force players to try out new perspectives, aside from the possibilities that they’ve understood to that point. Another developer stated that the game never gets boring because there are new powers, new machines, and new ways to play with the toy soldiers introduced every couple of levels. The various toys players encounter will create an interesting chain reaction as a result, and the challenge of these puzzles and maneuvers is deepened the further Tin Hearts players get into the game.
Since its debut, Tin Hearts has picked up a Most Anticipated Switch Game award from Gamescom and garnered plenty of positive previews. It’ll be interesting to see how the game is received at launch, but the passion poured into it is clear from this dev diary.
Tin Hearts releases on April 20 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It’ll release for PSVR2, PC VR, and Meta Quest 2 later this summer.
