Elden Ring Stats Reveal Staggering Number of Times Players Have Died

0

Dying is both common and expected in Elden Ring, and recent statistics show the staggering number of times players have met their demise.

Given that it’s a FromSoftware release, dying in Elden Ring is just something that players expect, and statistics from the game’s publisher show the mind-boggling number of times the Tarnished has succumbed to the brutal world of the Lands Between. When it launched in February 2022, the Soulsborne title shot to the top of the charts, becoming the highest-rated video game ever made. While the hype has obviously died down since then, it’s still a popular choice for those who enjoy a punishing action RPG.

A year on, and Elden Ring is preparing to launch the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which may also be implementing some cut content. Evidently, FromSoftware is not done with this universe. Brutal though the game may be, it went on to be the biggest hit of last year. Actually, the fact that it is such a difficult title is probably what drew a lot of players in, especially those who got a thrill from the challenge of the Dark Souls series or Bloodborne.

Those who have played Elden Ring and have experienced death after death may be interested to know just how many times fans have met their demise. Some recent statistics published by Bandai Namco show that there have been over 9 billion player deaths in Elden Ring since the game launched in February 2022. A breakdown shows that 69% of these were from enemies and other NPCs, 15% were due to status effects such as poisoning, 14% were caused by the player falling to their death, while just 2% were caused by another player.

Nine billion is a staggering amount. To put that into perspective, the actual population of the world is around eight billion, which means there aren’t enough people on Earth to account for the number of deaths in-game. For some, this may not be too much of a surprise. After all, there are many ways to die in Elden Ring, whether it’s making rookie mistakes or the game itself throwing difficult enemies and bosses at the player. However, that’s par for the course when it comes to a Soulsborne title.

For that reason, Elden Ring is easily one of the hardest RPGs ever made, though perhaps not as difficult as its predecessors. Given the sheer number of players who have died during the game, it would be interesting to compare the numbers across the Dark Souls series or Bloodborne.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
