A tabletop game for 2-6 players aged 8+
Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. The Alsaсian territory is the last refuge of the largest hamster in Europe, which lives in the wild. This endangered species is the subject of several European and local actions aimed at its protection, such as ALISTER or APELE . In this context, the team has developed a board game, for immersion in the daily struggle of this large rodent, and now started crowdfunding with Kickstarter.
DE HÀMSTER KÙMMT WIEDER (Hamster goes home) is an asymmetric, fast-paced multiplayer board game for 2–5 players aged 8 and up. The game demonstrates the struggle of hamsters with and against their natural enemies in their habitat in Alsace. Like most good stories, there is a fictional hero, the Super Hamster. A box includes a detailed playing field, special ability cards — all this is hand-printed, 22 miniatures of hamsters and predators, and dice to solve in-game contests. Rules are simple and intuitive, each team has its advantages and disadvantages.
The game process is not complicated, there are two teams: the hamsters, who must reach their burrow, and the predators, who try to catch them in the process. Hamsters are numerous but chubby. Predators are outnumbered, but quick and cunning. During their big hide-and-seek, they cross different areas of the playing field, each with its specificities that influence the course of the animals: dangerous roads to cross, freshly harvested fields that make them visible and vulnerable, farms with farmers hunting pests… So many constraints which raise awareness of those that know the rodent in real life.
Artwork and miniatures
A tabletop game about hamsters is not the only fruit of our long friendship with those animals (and the guys who are saving them). We were making tons of hamster-related goods: T-shirts, pop-up postcards, bags, and small dolls. Even a big paper hamster named Hubes.
But in this game they want to provide some hamster (and predator) characters, which, they hope, you like as much as they do. 18 hamster miniatures, 2 predators, one winged Super Hamster, and a special promo hamster you can see in a picture below.
You can check painted models on their Kickstarter page. With those miniatures, which all are hand-made and molded in Strasbourg. Even more, our game field and cards with team powers and tricks are hand-printed too, which, they hope, can give a project some special charm.
The Road Ahead
The main goal for the team now is to fund Hamster comm weider board game production on the Kickstarter platform. With the main game box, they are going to offer a supplement of nice unlockables (Guess what, they have lots of hamster sketches to be released 🙂 miniatures and pictures.
After this, nobody is going to burrow underground and enter a sort of hamster slumber. There are even more miniatures to be released, games to be done, and lots of different content for everyone, who loves European wildlife; even small, hairy, and wily — meet the hamsters! Of course, first-release success will help this process.
