Destructive Creations’ twin-stick murder simulator Hatred is coming to the Nintendo Switch, it has been confirmed.
Released in 2015, the game gained notoriety for its glorification of violence – something which caused Valve to remove it from their Steam Greenlight service. It was later reinstated, along with an apology from Valve’s Gabe Newell.
Placing you in the role of a cold-blooded killer who is “sick and tired of humanity’s worthless existence” and intent on “cleansing the land”, Hatred was positioned by its developer as a response to “politically correct” trends within the games industry:
These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment , we wanted to create something against trends. We say ‘yes, it is a game about killing people’ and the only reason of the antagonist doing that sick stuff is his deep-rooted hatred.
The game was awarded an ‘Adults Only’ rating, making it the third video game to receive the rating for extreme violence – Manhunt 2 and Thrill Kill are the other two.
Nintendo does not permit Adults Only-rated games on the eShop, so it remains to be seen if some content has had to be removed. No release date has been revealed yet, either.
