Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Loot System Update Is Already Broken

The updated loot system in Warzone 2 may appeal to fans of the original title, but it has brought with it some game-breaking bugs.

A major recent update to Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has overhauled major aspects of the game’s looting mechanics, but this new system has brought with it some major technical issues. A plethora of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 gamers have been complaining since launch about the refined loot system present in the free-to-play FPS battle royale due to its slower, more methodical pace. Activision has taken that negative feedback onboard and attempted to speed up the looting process by making it more similar to the looting system from the original Call of Duty: Warzone.

Rather than being able to open up duffel bags and first aid kits to loot individual items using the UI pop up, all the items now empty out of said containers instantly when a player highlights the container and press the loot button. Players who prefer Warzone 2‘s more nuanced loot system have lovingly referred to this less methodical style of looting as “vomit loot.”

However, it is now the case that even the players who preferred the looting mechanic from the original Call of Duty: Warzone are complaining about the changes that this update brought with it. This is owed to the fact that multiple loot-related glitches have been occurring in Warzone 2 over the past few days. Multiple examples have appeared online showing loot vanishing before the player’s eyes instantaneously before they can collect any of it. This behavior is obviously not normal and is hindering the battle royale experience for some players.

There have also been a few more minor instances of loot appearing incorrectly. Light machine guns have been appearing as measly pistols and vice versa, but at least these abnormal weapons can still be collected and used, unlike the ones that vanish from existence. This issue is obviously having a knock-on effect and hampering the Warzone 2 gameplay experience for players, as there may be instances where a player is reliant on picking up a certain weapon at a specific moment, only to be hit with the baffling frustration that their desired firearm has inexplicably disappeared.

It would seem that this desire to return to the ways of old has come at a price and is compromising the player experience. Due to the fact that this issue is having such a directly detrimental effect on the game, it is likely that Activision is already working on some sort of fix. Do not be surprised if the game sees yet another patch roll out over the next couple of days, ideally sooner rather than later.

The changes to the game’s loot system were not the only thing overhauled during the recent update. Many other aspects that made Warzone 2 unique in comparison with its predecessor have also been reverted to more closely resemble the first game. Examples of this include the map locations of loadout drops being changed and the Gulag now being a 1v1 battle to the death rather than 2v2.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
