“We apologise for unintentionally reinforcing ableism through this language.”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will remove the description of a “disfigured” character in an upcoming update.

The description belongs to Eoforwine, one of the game’s baddie Order of the Ancients assassination targets. It reads:

“Horribly burned in a childhood accident, Eoforwine is terrified someone will see her disfigured face. She relieves her fury with bursts of violence.”

One player flagged the description on Twitter, and stated it was “absolutely unacceptable to talk about facial differences this way”.

The official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account quickly responded, apologising for “unintentionally reinforcing ableism through this language” and promising the text would be removed.

I reviewed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla here on Eurogamer earlier this week, and came away impressed by its lavishly designed world which focuses on strong story direction over narrative choice.
