Arrowhead CEO Addresses Possible Helldivers 3 Release Schedule

Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has commented on a possible Helldivers 3 release schedule. By the sounds of it, fans certainly shouldn’t expect to see a sequel to Helldivers 2 any time soon.

Since the wildly successful launch of Helldivers 2 last year, Arrowhead Game Studios has been extremely communicative with its player base, frequently touching base with the community to see how it feels about the game. Helldivers 2 even has an active Discord server, where players can communicate directly with the Arrowhead CEO on a daily basis. As a result, Helldivers 2 is often held up as an example of proof that the live-service model can work, especially when developers find a great balance of content and engagement over a long period of time.

As spotted by GamesRadar+, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani recently responded to a Discord question about Helldivers 3, with bad news for fans who expected a sequel to one of the best-selling games of 2024 in the near future. “Honestly I’m very bought into the vision that Micke, Felix, Niklas and Marre (our game directors) and Johan have for the game. It’s great to be part of the ride. We honestly are focusing on the here and now. HD3 is hopefully many years away.”

It makes sense that Arrowhead Game Studios is in no great rush to push out Helldivers 3. It was revealed last year that Helldivers 2 will grow into Helldivers 3 over time, and it remains to be seen if this peculiar plan is still in place. Regardless, Helldivers 2 is still immensely popular, and its recent updates (notably the Battle of Super Earth) have gone down a treat with players. Helldivers 3 is a given one day, but it’s not something to consider for now.

We honestly are focusing on the here and now. HD3 is hopefully many years away.

As for Helldivers 2, there’s plenty for fans to look forward to in the coming months. Helldivers 2 plans to add more challenging content in the future, which should be great news for Super Earth defenders who currently find the game’s current offerings a little too easy. The game is also set to launch on Xbox Series X/S on August 26, breaking down yet another barrier in console exclusivity between PlayStation and Xbox.
