A tabletop open-world RPG board game that combines many mechanics and features inspired by my time playing tabletops.
Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. Shea Tanon from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania has recently launched his very first crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for his up-and-coming board game Area of Expedition. Shea has been dreaming and writing down board game ideas for many years and has finally put his thoughts to action and started drawing up plans for an open-world RPG like game. The game would include some really interesting mechanics and features simplified to a more “I don’t wanna read the rulebook every turn to know what this does” approach while being able to hold the player’s attention and interest with exciting new designs.
As the game is still in its “EARLY” stages of development, so changes can be made, but Shea does not plan to stray too far from the concept so far. As you can see from the games Table Top Simulator photo above, there’s still a lot to work to be done, but building this game has been very fun and rewarding, and Shea hopes the same for all of his backers who choose to help!.
Plans for Area of Expedition(AoE):
Shea wants this to feel like a video game RPG, where there are massive open-world elements that aren’t repetitive and also areas the player can enter into as instanced and explorable content like dungeons with different encounters, cities, towns, camps, and multiple types of combat and enemy territory.
He would love to work full time on this project, which would create enough income for Shea to dedicate 6 months of work to this beautiful soon-to-be board game and another possible 6 months of getting it on the shelves and out to the community. As the project progresses, Shea plans to keep updates posted to keep the community engaged and excited about what’s to come.
The current short-term goal for Area of Expedition is to have researched more into what will come next in this process and expand what is already laid out. Early design elements would include players being able to easily switch between professions and progress through their respective profession templates to unlock skills. Game Mats will act as placeholders for players, companions, towns, cities, dungeons, open areas, etc. This will give the game more of a clean feel while playing. Everything is where it should be. The open-world will have much to offer, including resources to be gathered for crafting, trading, selling, buying or building. Open area maps will be completely explorable if you feel like taking a break from raiding dungeons. In open area maps, you can find resources, dungeons, enemies, events, etc.
There are so many other plans for Area of Expedition, so be sure to check out this amazing idea for a Kickstarter.
There are always risks and challenges with any crowdfunding project. Area of Expedition will be a challenge of a game to create, with a lot of time invested and more time to come. Shea would like to work on this game full time and dedicate the next year to getting it made and released. The risks and challenges are obvious, but with the right backing, this can end incredibly well!.
With funding Shea would like to accomplish the development of Area of Expedition, which includes but is not limited to:
1. Physical copies of the product
2. Table Top Simulator version
3. Bringing on additional help with the scripting in the tabletop simulator and production of physical copies.
4. Opening up more reward options like early access to the physical game, and more.
By supporting this project from as little as ten dollars, you can help bring this RPG tabletop game to the high street stores and test Area of Expedition in the tabletop simulators virtual environment and give feedback to the team to help improve the game before its release.
