The Witcher 3 Mod Puts the Game in First-Person View

The Witcher 3 adventures of Geralt are now fully playable from a first-person perspective, thanks to an innovative modder and their hard work.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is proving yet once more that it is, in fact, a timeless classic. This time, the reason it’s being brought back up to relevancy is the release of an entirely new first-person perspective mod, possibly the best the game’s had yet.

Specifically, the so-called Gervant First Person mod for The Witcher 3 allows players to fully immerse themselves into the role of Geralt of Rivia. Featuring a wide array of quality-of-life features and a simple perspective switcher, Gervant is the perfect option for players that wish to replay Wild Hunt but might not have the excuse to do so.

According to the mod’s creator, Gervant’s sole focus was always to deliver a fully-playable Geralt from a first-person perspective, revitalizing the game’s core combat loop along the way, a niche that many other combat mods for The Witcher 3 already tackle. The focus is on Geralt himself, specifically, because the mod’s implementation of first-person Ciri isn’t ideal, and the official recommendation is to switch to a third-person perspective for her gameplay sequences.

Designed primarily for a mouse and keyboard control scheme, Gervant First Person implements major changes to how the game plays. Combat rolls, for one, are outright removed (though optionally available) due to motion sickness concerns, and knockdown has been changed to stagger. Similarly, there’s no more inertia to Geralt’s movement, allowing players to switch direction at the drop of a dime. At the same time, however, some of the mod’s features can exacerbate existing problems, such as The Witcher 3‘s Roach tilting into the ground.

Still, the final result is a surprisingly polished gameplay experience that allows players to experience one of the most visually impressive games of all time. CD Projekt RED’s texture-work and asset geometry hold up really well with Gervant First Person enabled. In fact, this mod makes The Witcher 3 look oddly similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which is a testament to how well it seems to work.

Interested players can find the mod via Nexus, though it’s worth pointing out that the installation process is fairly involved. Namely, the mod needs two different Community Patch releases, as well as a few additional files for everything to work properly. Not a major complication, but something to keep in mind. With a bit of luck, Gervant First Person will be re-released for The Witcher 3‘s upcoming next-gen version, too.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch.
