A video game based upon the Castle of Blackwood Moors game book.
Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. David Konkol, has been working in the gaming industry for more than 20 years and has been living in Ukraine for the past few years working on books and short stories but in 2021, a friend of David’s (Matt, a programmer) approached him to help create a game about something. They chose to make a game about the Castle of Blackwood Moors game book, which was based on David’s very first book.
For the most part, the going was smooth sailing. From typing in all of the passages of the book (including finding quite a few grammatical errors, sorry folks), to figuring out how best to implement a game book to game format.
Sadly, right before they hit a working Alpha version of the game, Russia invaded Ukraine. A lot of David’s Ukrainian friends had their lives completely disrupted. So David decided to create this Kickstarter.

Ukraine has a thriving artist community which David learned about at Comic-Con Kyiv in 2021. If you ever get a chance to go, I recommend it. A lot of them need work. As the game nears completion, David and Matt need art. “We have a need, they have a need. Hence, this Kickstarter was born”. They have a tight budget at the moment, and the majority of the money is going toward artwork as you can see below.

The Castle of Blackwood Moors the Video Game!
David wrote ‘The Castle of Blackwood Moors’ while living in Beijing working for a game company that has since folded (that’s another story). He joined a D&D group there, but it was a total Monty Hall campaign (literally, the DM handed out magic items to whoever showed up that week).
David longed for the days of old-school gaming where going into a dungeon/cave/grandma’s house was a place of high danger. Where not only do your stats on the page make a difference, but how you played. That kind of gameplay David missed. Sadly, David left the group and now had no one to play with.
In between work and sleep, he started writing, “The Castle of Blackwood Moors“. A 500+ page book emerged. He started his very own D&D group and got to play test it (An amazing group of people), and the book launched to great reviews:

That brings us to today. This digital version. David and Matt have plans to finish up the sequel. Not to mention all the other books David has been working on. There are even talks about making a game based on the ‘Grim Future‘ series of books as well. If this Kickstarter succeeds, there is a lot more cool stuff in the works!.
Rewards for backing this Kickstarter include a digital download code for the game once the game is available for distribution, large prints of The Castle of Blackwood Moors map, Mad Overlord T-Shirts, Mugs and Bear Traps and becoming a character in the game itself. For a full breakdown of the rewards available, check out their crowdfunding page on Kickstarter.
