David Jaffe has “heard about Bloodborne” being in development, but doesn’t know if it’ll make the rumored PlayStation showcase later this month.
God of War creator and Twisted Metal designer David Jaffe has come out swinging in this week’s episode of Gabbin’ + Games saying that there’s a Bloodborne remake currently in development.
During a discussion about the rumored PlayStation Showcase (which is set to arrive later this month), Jaffe said that he’d “heard about Bloodborne,” but wasn’t sure if it would be in this month’s presentation. So far, rumors have pointed to PlayStation pairing with Konami to announce the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake as well as updates on the Silent Hill 2 remake.
When a fan commented, “It’s missing Bloodborne for me,” Jaffe agreed.
“Oh yeah,” he said. “I loved that game man. I don’t know if it’s a remaster, I don’t know if it’s just a PC version, but we know it’s in development. But when are they gonna show it? I don’t f—in’ know.”
Those hoping for a sequel, however, will be disappointed. When a fan asked about the potential for a sequel, Jaffe admitted, “I don’t think Bloodborne 2 is in development.”
Rumors started swirling earlier this week about PlayStation holding a presentation slightly earlier than the usual E3 period. Insider Jeff Grubb reported the week of May 25, but admitted it “could happen earlier.” As for content, both Shpeshal Nick and Andy Robinson said that Konami would be a big partner in the presentation and that they’d jointly announce the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, with Nick suggesting “some sort of PlayStation exclusivity.”
The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake has been long-rumored to be in development, although Konami has yet to make an official announcement as it did with Silent Hill 2. As of the latest report, Metal Gear Solid 3 is being planned for a 2024 release courtesy of Chinese developer Virtuous.
Konami is also said to be using Metal Gear Solid 3 as a “test bed” for future Metal Gear remake plans. “The thing that’s less clear,” said Andy Robinson in a March podcast, “is what they’re gonna do with these older Metal Gear games that everyone’s really desperate to see come back to the forefront so that we can all play again on modern platforms.”
As for Bloodborne, Grubb played down rumors of a remake late last year, saying that FromSoftware was too busy with Elden Ring development to devote resources to even a PC port of Bloodborne. FromSoft is currently known to be working on Elden Ring’s first DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, as well as Armored Core 6, which is due out on August 25.
Demand is certainly there for a Bloodborne remake. Last October, Sony thought it was a good idea to play with Bloodborne fans by posting a blurry image of Bloodborne’s box art and asking fans to guess the image. In response, fans descended on the tweet demanding either a remake or a 60 FPS upgrade for Bloodborne on the PS5. It was probably a Halloween joke gone wrong, but it just shows how die-hard Bloodborne fans truly are.
