Bungie reveals Guardian Games 2024 including gameplay changes, new rewards, as well as a brand-new vehicle type called the skimmer.

Bungie reveals new details for Destiny 2‘s returning Guardian Games event, including all the new gear to be earned, medals to acquire, and a brand-new vehicle type called the skimmer board. Guardian Games in Destiny 2 is an Olympic-inspired event created to foster competition between the three classes: Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans. During the three-week event, players earn medals that they can deposit into the Tower Podium for their class with the one winning the most earning a special trophy that remains on display for the following year.

On a similar cadence as Bungie’s other seasonal events, Guardian Games has seen each class earn a win since the event kicked off in 2020. Last year it was the Titans who took home first place, with many wishing to pay tribute to actor Lance Reddick who passed away earlier in 2023. Reddick, while known for many iconic roles in TV and movies, is perhaps best known by video game fans as the voice of Commander Zavala since the franchise launched in 2014. However, the next iteration of Guardian Games arrives on March 5 and for this year’s event, Bungie is making more than a few changes.

With the return of Destiny 2‘s Guardian Games Event for 2024, the biggest headline for many players is the addition of a new vehicle type. Occupying the Sparrow slot is a new exotic vehicle called the Sparrow, which players can earn as soon as they complete the onboarding mission for the event. This free Guardian Games skimmer is called the Allstar Vector, and it will allow players to perform tricks, grind rails, as well as hoverboard around the game world. However, players will need to complete the Drop In quest before the limited-time event concludes in order to keep it permanently.

What’s Changing with Guardian Games 2024?

As Bungie previously hinted at in its 2024 Roadmap Update, Guardian Games 2024 has a few new wrinkles to freshen up the event. Known as Guardian Games All-Stars, the basics of the event remain the same by equipping a class item, completing contender challenge cards, and banking medals in order to win the majority of days for the player’s class, though 2024 adds a Diamond tier. Bungie calls these potentially game-changing as they’re potentially able to turn the tide for a class, so only three can be earned in a week. Two can be earned from end-game PvP and PvE activities, while the third can be earned as a Twitch Drop reward for watching a Destiny 2 stream for two hours.

Scoring has also seen a revision after the Guardian Games scoring controversies seen in previous years as the event attempted to account for an excess of Hunter players compared to the other two classes. Instead of class performance based on total Medallion score, this year’s event will instead measure the average Medallion score of all players who’ve deposited a Medallion that day, separated by class. In addition, player participation is also being rewarded through personal and group achievements, with five bonus rewards being issued for things like “Best In Tower” or being part of the winning class for that day, and performances in activities like Nightfall, Gambit, and Supremacy.

This year’s event also features a number of new rewards for players to grind, including a brand-new memento that follows in the footsteps of Festival of the Lost and The Dawning. The red, gold, and blue colored memento can be acquired in a few different ways, with a chance to drop by banking Gold and Platinum Medallions, though to guarantee it to appear, players should instead work on banking new Diamond Medallions. Any excess mementos will be held by Eva until the end of the event, so Bungie cautions Guardians to obtain them before she packs up for good on March 26.
