Apex Legends Season 18 Character Revenant Reborn’s New Gameplay Abilities Explained

Instead of a brand new character, Apex Legends players are getting a fresh new face and gameplay abilities for Revenant, dubbed Revenant Reborn.

Apex Legends season 18, dubbed Resurrection, launches on August 8, and this time around, there won’t be a new character—there will be a new face, though. Respawn is using this season to introduce Revenant Reborn with a new chapter in the Simulacrum’s story, as well as new gameplay abilities to boot. This gives his rework more of an important storyline, but also, it’s to bring the Assassin more in line with the current meta of Apex Legends. Revenant will be unlocked for all players at the beginning of the season, and completing a set of challenges before season 18 ends will grant him permanently.

Beyond Revenant Reborn, fans can expect a number of changes to Apex Legends‘ weapon meta, with Respawn aiming at SMGs in particular but also bringing back the Disruptor Rounds (and they can go on the Peacekeeper this season). Other new features include a continued refinement of the Ranked system, the introduction of Mixtape on Broken Moon, and obviously, the new Resurrection Battle Pass. Game Rant recently attended a Respawn Entertainment panel to learn more about season 18 and specifically Revenant Reborn.

As players may have noticed heading into Apex Legends season 18, Revenant has been glitching in the battle royale title as his mind is being shattered, filled with even more rage. While it’ll be interesting to see how this story unfolds, more players may be interested in the immediate impact on the gameplay. After all, Revenant’s totem is no more, some abilities remain, but the entire character plays differently now.

Apex Legends: Revenant Reborn Abilities

  • Passive – Assassin’s Instinct – Revenant can see low-health enemies, has improved crouch walk speed, and improved wall climbing.
  • Tactical – Shadow Pounce – Revenant can take a huge leap forward to close the distance on his prey.
  • Ultimate – Forged Shadows – Revenant will build a shroud of hardened shadows that blocks damage and regenerates for a time, with his shadows and tactical being refreshed via knockdowns.

While Revenant’s totem has been a mainstay, its efficacy has waned in past seasons, and so this new kit grants Revenant more of an Assassin-like gameplay style. When a Revenant player says someone is one shot, his passive ensure they are, in fact, one shot. He retains his improvement movement but also gets a stronger solo push with his tactical. Respawn Entertainment described it as capable of going as far as an Octane Jump Pad when fully charged. Combine all of this with his Forged Shadows Ultimate, and a charging Revenant is as terrifying as the old Revtane meta in Apex Legends.

To celebrate this death and rebirth, Apex Legends will be featuring the Death Dynasty Collection event, which features double XP in BR from August 8-15 and double XP in Mixtape from August 15-22. New cosmetics clearly join, but players will also be able to snag Revenant’s new Death Grip Heirloom.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
