The Baldur’s Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2 rivalry continues, but Fortnite and Cyberpunk 2077 have also been nominated.
Baldur’s Gate 3 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are both up for an award again, following a rivalry between their fanbases at The Game Awards. Both games are up for BAFTA’s EE Players’ Choice Award, which, like TGA’s Players’ Voice category, is decided by the audience.
The games are nominated alongside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, and Lethal Company. This is a wide range of games to take the top spots, as only four were actually released in 2023, and of those four, Lethal Company is still in early access.
And the #EEPlayersChoice award nominees for 2024 are….

Baldur’s Gate 3 has swept the award shows so far, winning big at the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, the New York Game Awards, the DICE Awards, and many more. However, it has stiff competition with two other incredibly popular games from last year: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Tears of the Kingdom. With voting limited to UK residents only, it’s very possible that this award show will yield different results than the rest.
The results may also be impacted by the fact that this category isn’t limited to new releases from 2023. Cyberpunk 2077 as a whole is nominated, not just its Phantom Liberty story expansion. Considering how long fans waited for the huge combat overhaul and final chapter to be added to the game, they may mobilise to see it win another award. That’s if they can fend off Fortnite fans, of course, who have enjoyed a bunch of popular updates in recent months.
Then, there’s Lethal Company, which went into early access last October. This survival game has overwhelmingly positive reviews from players on Steam, amassing a huge following. It’s clearly built up a lot of goodwill already, having made it into the BAFTA’s shortlist just months after launch.
Regardless, this is just one category, with the rest of the BAFTA gaming nominations set to be revealed on March 7, this Thursday. If it’s anything like other award shows, we can expect Baldur’s Gate 3 to sweep every category that it qualifies for. We can also expect Alan Wake 2 to scoop up a few nominations, as that’s also been a hit at the award shows.
