February 22 is a Big Day For Sons of the Forest

After being available via early access since 2023, fans should expect February 22 to be the most important date in Sons of the Forest’s history.

Sons of the Forest has drawn a lot of attention since February 2023, being a sequel to the popular 2014 survival horror title The Forest. The newer title has maintained a lot of the core themes and mechanics of its predecessor, but has already done a lot to stamp out its own identity and strengthen the weakest aspects of the franchise’s past.

Of course, Sons of the Forest has been receiving consistent updates since its early access launch in 2023, and February 22 is set to be the date that finally pulls all of this hard work together. With the title officially ending its early access and entering full release on February 22, fans should expect some sweeping changes right across the game’s main mechanics, storytelling, availability, and more.

February 22 Will Mark a New Era For Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest has a very similar premise to its predecessor, seeing players thrust into a remote island inhabited by cannibals and twisted horrors. Featuring a thorough gathering and crafting system, players can build bases and create tools to defend themselves and even take the fight directly to the villages and caves where the island’s inhabitants dwell. Despite these similarities, Sons of the Forest already possesses a lot of features that were not present in The Forest, with the following improvements currently being in-game:

  • A much larger map
  • Improved AI
  • Reworked crafting and building system with more items
  • AI companions
  • Dynamic weather and season system
  • More weapons
  • Potential to befriend certain enemies

Story Improvements Are At the Core of Sons of the Forest 1.0

These improvements have been consistently added to over the past year, and with February 22 finally bringing the 1.0 update to Sons of the Forest, a spate of new content should be expected. Little is known about what kind of fresh content will be added on February 22, although Endnight Games has released a statement which gives some insight. The official announcement of Sons of the Forest‘s full release let fans know one of the game’s side characters, Timmy, will be voiced by Shawn Ashmore in the upcoming update.

Shawn Ashmore has had a long career in TV and film, starring in the X-Men franchise and The Boys, while recently finding success in the gaming industry as Tim Breaker in Alan Wake 2. A full voiced role for Timmy seems to point towards the storytelling improvements that Endnight has in mind for Sons of the Forest going forward. The full release statement also mentions how story updates will be a main factor of the 1.0 update on February 22. While not officially confirmed, rumors claim that the full release of Sons of the Forest may even see the title become available on consoles, so hopefully such plans will be revealed at a later date.

The statement also tells fans to expect overall game polish improvements and brand-new features on February 22, being the start of what should be a comprehensive set of new mechanics that Sons of the Forest will receive in the near future. While more exact details of what this new content will be should be revealed in the coming days, it is already clear that players should expect significant story improvements and new game mechanics for Sons of the Forest on February 22 to mark the game’s full release.
