Disney Dreamlight Valley Teases New Feature Coming in Update 9

Disney Dreamlight Valley teases a helpful and highly-requested new feature that’s set to debut as part of its upcoming Update 9.

Disney Dreamlight Valley will soon allow players to change their in-game names whenever they desire. This highly requested feature will be one of the additions debuting as part of the upcoming Disney Dreamlight Valley Update 9.

While Gameloft’s hit life sim prides itself on its huge open world where players can go anywhere and do almost anything, their in-game monikers have so far proven resistant to that freedom-first design philosophy. Namely, ever since Disney Dreamlight Valley reached early access in September 2022, its players were forced to stick with the names that they had picked for themselves at the very beginning of their sandbox adventures.

Following a sizable volume of requests, Gameloft is now finally planning to add a name change option to the hit game, having said as much on February 6. Taking to Twitter, a company representative revealed that the much-requested feature will be added to the game as part of the next Disney Dreamlight Valley update. The timing of that patch remains up in the air, with Gameloft merely stating that more info on the matter will be available shortly.

The feature confirmation has garnered thousands of likes and over 115,000 views within a day of going live on Twitter. The social media reactions to the announcement were predominantly positive, though some fans still took the opportunity to openly question why the developer took so long. Aside from the fact that the ability to change one’s name has been a highly requested addition for over a year, their frustrations might also stem from the fact that the feature itself has already existed in the game since launch. However, it is currently inaccessible after the beginning of Disney Dreamlight Valley, when the game asks the player to confirm their character’s moniker, thus providing them with a single opportunity to change it.

Although Disney Dreamlight Valley had already received one patch back in late January, that release—which bumped its version number up to 1.8.7—was merely a hotfix. In contrast, Update 9 will be the game’s first major patch in 2024. Seeing how Gameloft adheres with semantic versioning principles when naming its updates, it is likely that the jump from 1.8.7 to 1.9 will introduce more novelties beyond the name change feature.

Looking at the bigger picture, Disney Dreamlight Valley players have plenty of other things to look forward to in 2024; a new realm is set to arrive in late winter, followed by yet another villager in early spring. Gameloft intends to repeat that realm-villager release combo between late spring and early summer, having already confirmed as much back in November.
