Game Geeks News is proud to bring you another great gaming project currently running on Kickstarter. Crystal Fruit Games are a studio of passionate developers raised on games of all genres. As a new studio, they strive to come out swinging with Minigunner, and set the standard high for years to come. Minigunner is Crystal Fruit Games’ twist on a traditional action roguelike, combining twin-stick shooter combat with wave defence gameplay, it is intense, strategic, and really fun!
Collect scrap from fallen foes and spend it on a wide variety of upgrades! From sentry turrets & drones to a large array of impactful items, there are limitless combinations to pick up, and hard choices to be made. The team have put a lot of work into giving the game high replayability and skill expression, while also shaking up the formula with some tower-defence and bullet hell elements to create an awesome experience like no other!
You’ve just been hired by the Cryon Mining Company, to defend their mining operations from gloop outbreaks. Gloops are slime-like enemies that can mysteriously appear in the deepest parts of the mines.
Prepare your defences: Ready yourself for the enemies that are coming your way! Track their path of attack and set up sentry turrets to help hold your ground.
Fight to survive: Fight enemies back with your powerful weapons and abilities. Use a combat roll to dodge enemy attacks and stay in the fight!
Spend your scrap at shops: Buy health kits, powerups, and upgrades! Create your own item build that takes advantage of synergies and special effects.
Descend into the mines: Take on the most dangerous of foes in ruthless boss fights. The mines are procedurally generated differently every time!
Though they may look squishy and relatively harmless, gloops are actually extremely dangerous and can cause significant damage to company property… and personnel.
Though they come in many shapes and sizes, they have a few similarities that run between them. Most gloops have a round body made of opaque slime, with blue Cryon Crystals protruding outwards. Gloops are incredibly hostile and can charge up devastating attacks of nullifying plasma that annihilate anything they touch on contact.
Not much is known about exactly where they come from and how they function, C.M.C. has been attempting to conduct more research on them, but with their researchers constantly being disintegrated, it hasn’t been easy. For now, we advise shooting first and asking questions later.
Periodically, a vital powerline will be damaged and you’ll need to descend deep underground to repair it. As you journey deeper into the treacherous underground, you’ll come face to face with the source of the corruption: fierce behemoth gloops supercharged by unstable energy. Each boss will have a variety of different attacks and enhanced forms of those attacks when it gets enraged at low health.
You will face off against these boss enemies in procedurally generated arenas. Each fight will offer unique forms of cover, dangerous obstacles, empowering supplies, and heavy mining equipment to obliterate your foes.
As a new mercenary, your first mission takes you to Frostus III: a desolate and frozen planet on the outskirts of charged space. A local mining outpost is raising a distress signal, needing help with a “small gloop outbreak”. Despite harsh conditions, dense clusters of rare Cryon Crystals motivated C.M.C. to establish a mining colony on Frostus III. These crystals are potent energy sources, and are vital for interstellar space travel, making them extremely valuable. But as you approach the mission site, it quickly becomes clear that this is no standard gloop outbreak.
The outpost is in complete disarray. Requests for comms go unanswered, your sensors only detect faint signs of life, and the gloop’s purple corruption creeps out from the mineshafts. This place has been completely overrun.
Your only chance of survival now is to broadcast an S.O.S. signal to HQ for reinforcements. To do this you need a surge of power from the main Cryon Crystal Reactor to be diverted to the interstellar distress beacon.
Unfortunately, the required Cryon energy surge draws swarms of gloops from deep underground, growing stronger with each new power surge! Use the outpost and its remaining functional machinery to your advantage as you fight to survive against the gloop swarm.
Adapt as automated doors and crumbling barricades give the gloops new paths through the outpost, and use utilities like 2-way teleporters and controllable bridges to maximize your advantage in the fight.
As gloops move through the outpost, pieces of scrap metal get stuck in their gooey bodies, allowing mercenaries to harvest scrap from defeated enemies. Spend this scrap metal at automated shop terminals to purchase items and equipment to power up and fight back!
instead of getting your loot out of completely random chests, Crystal Fruit Games have designed shops to give you a bit more control over your items. At the end of each wave, shop terminals across the outpost open to offer exciting items for purchase. With each new shop comes refreshed selection of powerful items, sturdy defensive equipment, and medical supplies to keep yourself in prime fighting shape.
From standard issue mining equipment to exotic alien fruits, and even legendary cosmic artefacts, there is no telling what you’ll find in C.M.C.’s shop terminals!
Each shop will have 3 unique items for purchase. These items can come in 3 different rarities, and our goal is to make items of the same rarity equally compelling in different ways. You can visit a new shop after each wave that you complete, giving you many opportunities to pick up exactly what you need!
Putting thought into what you buy can make all the difference in a run. Considering what items synergize with each other, which items work well with your character, and how everything comes together to form your build has proven to be really fun! With the right combination of items, you can become an unstoppable killing machine!
The Cryon Mining Company employs highly skilled mercenaries with unique combat prowess. With signature weapons and abilities, each mercenary offers distinct and exciting ways to defend the outpost! The Minigunner is a heavy weapons expert that excels in intense combat and high-pressure situations. The sheer firepower of his rapid-fire minigun can mow down wave after wave of enemies while refreshing his ammo with unique items and well-timed ability kills.
As a master mechanic, the Engineer doesn’t fight alone! Always ready to put scrap to good use, he’s able to match any threat with the help of his custom mini-sentry companion. His high-damage shotgun can obliterate close-range enemies, giving him a high-risk, high-reward playstyle.
Armed to the teeth, the Commando lives for the thrill of battle. Ready to adapt to any situation, he’s equipped with an agile laser burst rifle and a heavy-hitting rocket launcher, and he gains new abilities depending on which weapon is active! He relishes every moment in combat, blasting and blowing up anything in his way.
As an experienced worker at other mining outposts, the Drillminer uses a modified drillmine launcher to control the battlefield. His attacks drill into enemies hit and can be detonated for explosive bursts of damage. He’s seen it all, and he hasn’t met a problem a well-placed stick of dynamite couldn’t solve.
