A Red Dead Online player takes a shot at a bird but forgets they’re using dynamite arrows, resulting in quite the shock.
With a fair amount of weapons to choose from in Red Dead Online, most players choose to select the most appropriate weapon when hunting prey. Hunting animals with the right weapon and targeting the right part of the animal can yield perfect-condition pelts, boosting the profit of the hunt and granting the player the opportunity to unlock certain gear with Gus Macmillan.
However, that’s anything but the case in this particular clip. Player riddlemethis200017 has now shared their mistake when they reached for their bow in Red Dead Online to hunt a bird and got more than they bargained for.
In the video shared on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit, Riddlemethis200017 can be seen riding their horse along the plains before tilting the camera up to look at a group of Cedar Waxwing birds flying overhead. Riddlemethis200017 wastes no time and draws their bow, takes aim, and lands the shot perfectly. However, what they weren’t accounting for is the type of arrow they were using in the bow. Instead of a standard arrow or even small game arrow, they used a dynamite arrow. The result is a spectacular explosion which takes out the bird and the two flying next to it.
While this isn’t a great way to hunt, whether the player wants to earn money in Red Dead Online or gather supplies, it certainly created a memorable moment. Riddlemethis200017 simply sits stock-still on their horse after the explosion, seemingly stunned by their mistake, as feathers rain down around them from where the birds once were, a detail that surprised many in the comments. While the choice of arrow was a mistake, it did at least unlock a hunting award for the player, as they destroyed more than two animals in a single explosion.
Fellow players were amused by the accident, even going so far as to compare it to an anti-aircraft hunt, making it more similar to a moment in fellow Rockstar Games title GTA Online than Red Dead. Others lamented having similar accidents in their playthroughs and ending up ruining the pelt or hide of an animal that was in perfect condition prior to them taking their shot. High-powered and explosive weapons can be extremely helpful in a dire situation against highly aggressive animals or in taking down NPC or PC opponents, but they can also work against the player if they aren’t careful. The video serves as a reminder to always be mindful of one’s ammunition before taking their shot in Red Dead Online.
