As the Xbox Series X/S embraces 2022, the console’s library is beginning to take shape. As studios become accustomed to the power of the ninth generation consoles, more games will come out that push Microsoft’s platform to its limits. Each year should conceivably result in better games than its predecessor, and there is a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
2021 produced some great Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One games, including Resident Evil Village, Hitman 3, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, and Death’s Door. Regardless of whether someone’s console of choice is an Xbox Series X/S or an Xbox One, 2022 should be an exciting year. What Xbox Series X games are set to drop in the coming months? What upcoming games justify keeping the Xbox One around?

February 2022 Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games
While January 2022 was not stacked with releases, February 2022 more than makes up for it. Dying Light 2: Stay Human, The King of Fighters 15, Elden Ring, and Grid Legends are all scheduled to drop within the month. Not only are these all highly anticipated games in their own right, but they cover a wide spectrum of genres. First-person, third-person, fighting, and racing fans all have something to look forward to in February 2022.
Out of those games, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is February 2022’s most highly anticipated game. Coming out on both the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, Elden Ring looks set to be an evolution of the Dark Souls concept, delivering an open-field setting based on lore by George R. R. Martin.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and Evil Dead: The Game are also major releases, while Life Is Strange Remastered Collection could entice those who missed out on the games when they came out individually. For racing fans yearning for a realistic sim, there are few that compare to Assetto Corsa Competizione, a game that received a decent reception when it launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires could also right the wrongs of its much-maligned mainline entry, hopefully sparking a return to form for the hack and slash franchise.

March 2022 Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games
March 2022 is shaping up to be a solid month thanks to the scheduled releases of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, and Elex 2. The treats for RPG fans don’t stop there either as Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be making its way to the Xbox One.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin have the potential to be pleasant surprises and fun departures from the status quo of their respective franchises. The trailer for Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo’s Final Fantasy spin-off garnered a divisive reception, but the studios have more than a few high-quality action games under their belts; hopefully, Stranger of Paradise proves to be on the same level as something like Ninja Gaiden or Nioh. Shadow Warrior 3’s release date has been leaked, setting the game up for a March 1, 2022 debut. Also, those who pre-order the FPS get the first two Shadow Warrior games.
In March 2022, Rockstar also plans to release GTA 5 and GTA Online for the Xbox Series X/S. By that point, GTA 5 would have been out for close to a decade, so it is hardly a “new” game in any sense of the world. Nevertheless, the open-world sandbox game will always have an audience.

Major Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games Announced For The Rest Of 2022
There are plenty of other games scheduled for after March 2022 or tentatively announced for the year. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Gotham Knights, Hogwarts Legacy, and Gollum are just a few of the Xbox games that look set to define 2022.
Xbox Series X/S players can look forward to some major console exclusives next year, with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, Starfield, and Redfall all expected to drop. All three games are system sellers that will make owning an Xbox Series X/S worthwhile, along with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
When it comes to third-party games, 2022 is looking strong. Saints Row should light up the summer, reviving the open-world sandbox franchise following quite a long period of inactivity. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has the potential to be one of the better licensed games of recent years, while Dragon Ball: The Breakers offers a unique survival spin on the anime franchise. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, and Star Trek: Resurgence are also exciting prospects, and these games are just the tip of the iceberg.

“Coming soon” can mean anything from a few months to a couple of years. Beyond Good and Evil 2, Diablo 4, Dragon Age 4, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are all in development, but players will have to wait patiently to learn when these games will be made available to play. Projects like the new Bungie IP are still a long way off from becoming a reality; however, at least the studios have confirmed they are working on them.
