A 2D action platformer game unafraid to challenge the genre. Conquer unique levels as two characters to save your home from its king.
Game Geeks News are proud to bring you another amazing project currently running on kickstarter. Havoc Studios are an Independent game studio based in Central Tennessee, currently developing the 2D action platform game Havoc Fox.
Havoc Fox is a 2D action platformer inspired by games such as Freedom Planet and Megaman ZX. Platforming, puzzle-solving, melee and ranged combat, and exploration will all play a major role in your adventure to save the Kingdom of Vanalia from its tyrant ruler and his mighty Sentries! Havoc Fox features two full campaigns, each with its own story, setting, and elements of gameplay. Grow more powerful from each boss you defeat, uncover various secrets throughout the kingdom’s many locations, and help those in need along the way.
A free demo is available featuring four stages, two for each playable character – and some extra secrets to unlock and experience!

King Jikan is dead. Havico, the younger brother of Jikan and heir to the throne, is left to rule the Kingdom of Vanalia. Young, inexperienced, and highly impressionable, King Havico seeks the assistance of a mysterious, shadowy figure. Without explanation, the young king turns on his people, deploying his royal guard (known as the Sentries) and ordering them to attack and control the denizens of Vanalia.

Sometime later, a grey fox awakens with amnesia amidst an abandoned cove. Upon meeting a scavenger, he is given the name Grey and seeks to stop the tyrant king, hoping to uncover clues to his past along the way. Elsewhere, a young rabbit-dragon by the name of Venice begins her first duty day in the Royal Vanalian Air Force. When her post in Miracle City is attacked, attempting to thwart the invasion leads her to Grey.
As Grey and Venice meet each other, their mission becomes clear: eliminate the Sentries, stop Havico, and restore peace to Vanalia!.
Grey is one of the protagonists and playable characters in Havoc Fox. His story begins on the rocky shores of an abandoned cove without any memory of who he is. Luckily for him, Grey wakes up with a couple of weapons and a variety of attacks at his disposal.

Grey’s energy sword is lethal at close range, allowing him to quickly attack anything that gets too close. Adjust your angle of attack to deliver an overhead spin, a sweeping ground strike, or a devastating slam attack. When it gets too dangerous to engage targets up close, utilize Grey’s ranged energy attacks to safely attack from afar. Fire in 8 directions, both on the ground and in the air, to deal with any enemy that stands in your way.

As Grey defeats the King’s Sentries, he will learn new moves and abilities from them. Grey begins with the ability to empower his ranged and melee attacks, as well as gain temporary invincibility. Bosses will expand Grey’s arsenal with a variety of additional attacks, such as summoning violent twisters to send your enemies into the sky.
Venice is the other protagonist and playable character in Havoc Fox. Her story begins on the busy streets of Miracle City, patrolling the area as a new enlistee in the Royal Vanalian Air Force. Thanks to her combat goggles, as well as her best friend Spooky, Venice is more than prepared to fight off the Sentries. Venice’s goggles are long and sturdy, rendering them a deadly weapon to anyone who gets too close! Her standard melee attack sends the goggle strands in front of her, whereas diverting the attack upwards or downwards deals a more powerful blow in either direction. Attack downward from midair to deliver a powerful dive kick, allowing Venice to bounce off of her enemies!.

Venice’s owl friend, Spooky, plays a vital role in Venice’s move set. Spooky fires a steady stream of short-range projectiles in whichever direction Venice is facing. Spooky attacks independently of Venice, allowing her full access to her moves while Spooky is firing. Combine your attacks to wreak havoc on your enemies. Unlike Grey, Venice’s beginning special sends out Spooky to attack on his own. Spooky will fly forward, seek out enemies, and strike them with a powerful attack! While Spooky is away, Venice uses her sidearm to attack enemies from afar. Like Grey, Venice gains new special attacks from each boss she defeats, such as the ability to summon giant balls of plasma that damage everything in their path.

Havoc Fox’s adventure mode will be the primary means of experiencing the game’s grand journey and rich story. Although Grey and Venice are equally important as the game’s playable protagonists and spend a lot of time together, they each have their own separate campaigns. While they meet up early on in the story and travel through many of the same stages together, the story plays differently for each of them. The world map will serve as your means of travelling across Vanalia. Completing a stage will open up new locations based on current story progression, allowing you to travel to new stages, replay previous levels, or visit one of the game’s many hub areas. Looking for a quicker, more casual way of playing stages? All levels can be accessed from the main menu’s Level Select.

Your journey across Vanalia will send you through a variety of exotic locations. Vibrant cities, glacial jungles, abandoned military bases, and more await you on your adventure! Most stages in Havoc Fox will have a particular theme affecting general gameplay, platforming, and puzzle-solving. Additionally, each stage will have secrets hidden throughout, ranging from lore collectibles to secret boss fights. Be sure to return to earlier stages with newer abilities and explore. Throughout Vanalia, you will encounter non-combat areas with various NPCs. In these hub locations, you will have the opportunity to converse with other characters to better understand the world, purchase items from shops or other characters, and a few other things that we’ll keep as a surprise! These areas change as your game progresses, so be sure to stop by frequently.
The hub in Miracle City serves as the primary hub area in Havoc Fox, offering more for Grey and Venice than the other hubs throughout Vanalia. This particular location will grow and expand throughout the game, opening up more areas, vendors, and optional challenges. If you need to take a break in-between stages, the Miracle City Hub is an excellent choice.

On your adventure, you will come across shiny objects known as Gemmes, which serve as Vanalia’s primary currency. You may spend these Gemmes at the various TechnoVend stalls along your path. In the hub areas, you will find TechnoVend booths that offer status boosts, upgrades, and more to set you up for your next outing. Be sure to collect any and all Gemmes that you find.

Exploration and challenge completion will pay off in Havoc Fox, granting you access to extra material from the main menu. Learn about the enemies you’ve encountered in the Bestiary! Uncover the backstories and lore of Vanalia’s locations and characters! Unlock concept art and hidden tracks by completing given (and hidden) challenges.
Havoc Fox has been in development since early 2017, but its current development plan and identity weren’t established until late 2020. As a result, progress on the game is on the lower end at the moment, leaving our projected release date somewhere around 2023-2024. With funding from Kickstarter to help us spread our duties across extra helpers, we may be able to bring the release date a little closer!
Stay informed by following Havoc Studios on Twitter, Facebook, and Discord to make sure you’re always up-to-date with their progress.
For supporting Havoc Fox, the team would like to reward you in many ways based on how much you offer! Rewards include having your name in credits, Digital Copy of Havoc Fox, Digital Soundtrack and Digital Artbook or even become a character in the game.
The reward tiers can be found on their kickstarter page clearly detailing what you will receive for how much you give.
Risks and challenges:
Game development demands a lot of time and effort from its developers. Even as a solo development studio, Havoc Studios depend on outside help to keep the game’s development as quick and polished as possible – especially since the lead developer still has college to worry about! Unfortunately, it can get expensive contracting workers to assist in the game’s development, and as such, it can slow the game’s development when external costs are paid out-of-pocket. A successful Kickstarter campaign would provide them with the funding necessary to complete Havoc Fox’s development in a timely manner. While Havoc Studios intend to continue the development of the game regardless of the campaign’s results, the release date may be much farther away without the extra funding.
