Fallout 76’s Next Boss Event Should Learn From The Ultracite Titan

The latest Boss Event in Fallout 76 outshines the game’s previous ones and consequently sets the bar high for future raid content.

Fallout 76’s newest Boss Event doesn’t suffer from the same shortcomings as the game’s previous ones. The Boss Event has players fighting an Ultracite Titan Molerat and makes for the third similar event available in Fallout 76, after the Scorchbeast Queen and Earle Williams, the Wendigo Colossus. With how the Ultracite Titan Boss Event plays out, future Boss Events should learn from the new Boss Event, instead of the older ones.

In Fallout 76, the Boss Events are the game’s equivalent of raids that culminate in a final boss fight open to the entire public or private server to participate in. Each of the Boss Events in the game requires players to successfully launch a nuke in Fallout 76 at one of three different locations, specific to which Boss Event they wish to attempt. Players can ultimately nuke any part outside the map’s safe zone, though every location comes with particular rewards.

The Highs and Lows of Fallout 76’s Scorchbeast Queen and Wendigo Colossus Boss Events

While the Scorchbeast Queen enemy variant is unique to the Boss Event, standard and legendary Sorchbeasts can be found at plenty of locations throughout Fallout 76’s Appalachia. The Scorchbeast Queen Boss Event is generally regarded as one of Fallout 76’s best Public Events partly due to the valuable rewards, although none of them are unique to the event. The one reward that is somewhat unique to this specific Boss Event is power armor mod plans, however, these plans can drop from any Scorchbeast enemy, albeit with a lower chance. Since none of the rewards are exclusive to the Boss Event, it is much easier and faster to take down weaker Scorchbeasts instead.

The Wendigo Colossus has a better pool of rewards than the Scorchbeast Queen since it has unique rewards on top of the general rewards that are shared between each of the three Boss Events. Unlike how Scorchbeast variants can be found in the wild and farmed for rewards, the Wendigo Colossus can be encountered outside of the event, except it is an identical variant as the Boss Event enemy, yet it drops none of the unique rewards. Not to mention, the wild Wendigo Colossus is an extremely rare encounter in Fallout 76. In the case of the Wendigo Colossus, it’s more worthwhile to participate in the Boss Event than to pursue the random encounter alternative.

Where the Wendigo Colossus Boss Event falls short from the others is that it takes place in an instance location. In Fallout 76, public instances generally have a max limit of eight players, instead of allowing all of a server’s 24 players, which the other two Boss Events allow. For the Wendigo Colossus Boss Event, this means that anyone that doesn’t join fast enough to group up with the first instance will potentially have an incomplete team to fight the boss. Since Fallout 76’s Wendigo Colossus is such a powerful and tanky enemy, anything short of a full team of eight may not complete the Boss Event within the allotted time and consequently fail.

Why Fallout 76’s Ultracite Titan Molerat Boss Event is The Best in The Game

One thing that more and more Fallout 76 updates are starting to introduce is named legendary weapons. Fallout 76‘s Nuka World On Tour Update that came with the Ultracite Titan Boss Event also introduced what are considered to be “4-star” legendary weapons, since these named weapons have four traits, instead of the ordinary maximum of three. Each of the three different Boss Events notably rewards random nuclear fauna and repair kits, although where the Ultracite Titan surpasses the rewards from the Scorchbeast Queen and Wendigo Colossus is that it gives named legendary weapons that happen to be 4-star gear.

Another aspect of the Ultracite Titan that should influence future Boss Events is that it introduced unique enemies to Fallout 76. The last time a completely new enemy type was added to the game was the Trogs from Fallout 76‘s The Pitt update. Given how plentiful the Scorchbeast variants are and how unrewarding the wild Wendigo Colossus fight is, keeping the Ultracite Titan exclusive to the event should be the new standard to ensure that Boss Event enemies are worth the trouble of the fight.

Fallout 76 is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
