Call of Duty: WWII on Xbox Game Pass has a massive player count; it had us double-checking the numbers! No matter the hate the series gets, it is huge!

Leave it to CoD to blow the roof off! Call of Duty: WWII on Xbox Game Pass has a massive player count as you might expect from an entry in the series, but the extent to which it’s exploded needs to be seen to be believed.

Xbox Game Pass adding Call of Duty is obviously a massive winner

  • You can collect all of the Call of Duty: WWII achievements in around 80 hours
  • Tiers: Ultimate, Standard, and PC Game Pass
  • Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, and PC

Every week, we use our exclusive data from Game Trends to find the most popular Xbox games using a representative sample of 3.1 million accounts that stretch beyond those on TrueAchievements. One we’ve been keeping an eye on in the Xbox Charts is the addition of Activision’s famous shooting game franchise. Since being added to Xbox Game Pass on June 30, Call of Duty: WWII’s player count is up 1,378% compared to the previous week on Xbox.

While we can certainly conclude that “big gaming franchise gets easy access and does well,” I do think that this enormous and sudden increase goes beyond that. Call of Duty has a unique pull where, even though there is access to newer entries like Modern Warfare II on the service, players are willing to delve into the back catalogue and engage heavily with those titles.

We aren’t talking about just ‘big’ increases here — we’re talking about gigantic ones. Being the #163 most popular game on Xbox, to the next week being in the #9 position is a uniquely big jump. It’s not even like it’s the only CoD game doing well, the Call of Duty HQ remained the most popular game on Xbox last week.

I do have to clarify that by saying there are three games (MWII, MWIII, and Black Ops 6 as well as Warzone) under that banner, but the CoD dominance is established regardless. The only other franchise with this level of pull for older titles that I can think of is Assassin’s Creed and, arguably, Elder Scrolls. Whether you like it or not, the data shows that this franchise has a very unique level of high engagement, and Microsoft will need to leverage it for Game Pass.

I’m sure you don’t want to hear me rambling on more about this, so I’ll pass the baton off to you! Where do you think Call of Duty: WWII ranks among all the CoD games in order? Let me know in the comments below, and catch you there, soldiers!
